Beautiful images from Erick Bayala (postdoc in the Wittkopp lab) using HCR to visualize expression of multiple mRNAs throughout pupal development help us understand how the temporal and spatial regulation of gene expression determines adult traits (pigmentation, in this case).
#onlywithHCR: Visualizing RNA Expression in Drosophila Pupal Development 🔬
A study on Drosophila by Bayala et al. highlights a novel protocol using HCR™ technology to study RNA expression in the fragile and impermeable tissues of the Drosophila epidermis during pupal development.
@EXBayala and his co-authors describe a method for dissecting tissue and detecting RNA across various stages, including early and late pupal stages, as well as larval imaginal discs.
Powered by HCR™ imaging, this approach allows for the study of dynamic gene expression patterns throughout the pupal development process, overcoming the challenges of tissue fragility and impermeability.

@FascinatingPupa @pbeldade @molecology@ellafuente@DDuneau Beautiful work, @ellafuente and @pbeldade! We also saw (with much lower resolution) differences in QTLs among body parts for pigmentation divergence between D. elegans and D. gunungcola: https://t.co/FrYktGoLdL
This is a nice review on ancestral recombination graphs (ARGs), the one graph to rule them all for population genetics. We are entering an era where one can conceptualise at least entire population ARGs. https://t.co/4FCKPkAiLz

@landrychristian Thanks @landrychristian. That means a lot coming from you. Your 2014 paper with Guillaume Diss (https://t.co/NCE5JBC4Lw) was an inspiration. As were conversations with Zachary Lippman from @CSHL following #EMBOPredictEvo

Posting on twitter right now feels a little like putting up an informational flyer on the deck of the Titanic, but I'm recruiting PhD students to work on spatial population genetics in my lab at @UMichEEB!
