In the world of infosec and IT there are a class of problems that must be ignored despite their severity because there isn't any good way to fix them.
In fact, you learn to ignore them for so long you forget they even exist.
Let's talk about one of them. The "Downloads" folder
@adamhjk I think he's a bit wrong. Or, at least, his view of complexity is not the same as mine. I tend to prefer microservices to rails monoliths. I get that the former are sprawling, but they have pretty clear boundaries.
I find often rails code sprawling very hard to follow.
So here's the thing. You can only violate people's legal rights and your own word so far before they lawyer up and come after you.
I really do hope Musk changes his mind and does the right thing - the employees deserve that. But it'll be fun as hell if he doesn't.
Breaking news: scientists are reporting a recent discovery that exposure to Starlink satellite transmissions is now the leading cause of COVID-19 infections worldwide.
🧵Hi. Free-speech maximalist here. No, this issue has nothing to do with free-speech -- as such.
Trump wasn't suspended because he's bad for society (though he is), but because he was bad for Twitter's brand.
Each of these causes real human death. Often horrifically so, and on a scale far higher than a couple of cars.
Running social networks connects humans. And I’m a global world, that is surprisingly fraught.
There’s been a lot of dunking on idiot tech bros for misunderstanding what’s hard about social media. But one thing I’ve seen missing, is that it absolutely can cause deaths.
Failing to understand that, is failing to understand people.
While everything is fresh, some ex-Twitter should open a text editor and start writing all the things she/he remembers. Don't care to organize the ideas right now, start with the latest crazy days, both the big picture and single small facts. Then go backward with memory.
I've seen a lot of people asking "why does everyone think Twitter is doomed?"
As an SRE and sysadmin with 10+ years of industry experience, I wanted to write up a few scenarios that are real threats to the integrity of the bird site over the coming weeks.
If I had to bet on whether Elon will pull through and Twitter ultimately succeeds, I’d probably still bet on the success case. Social networks are surprisingly durable.
Still, there is a KNOWN playbook for how to take over a dysfunctional company and quickly turn it around.

Hello,
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone at home?
Come on now
I hear you're feeling down
Well, I can ease your pain
And get you on your feet again
Relax
I'll need some information first
Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts?
