The grind is not waking up at 4am and doing 500 burpees and an ice bath, that’s not easy, but not that hard if you have a little bit of grit.
The grind is doing the same exercises for years on end until you master them and NOT doing more to a that.
The problem is too many athletes want to do too much. It’s easy to just spam 100 different speed exercises you see on instagram. It’s hard to stick to 5 and do them religiously for 3 years…
That’s where true mastery is developed.
For reference to my last post, when I was a kid as early as I could remember all the way to middle school, I’m every summer I would be outside from morning until late evening. I would be running, jumping, climbing, etc for HOURS on end.
Kids today are starting way behind the curve because of the lack of activity in their adolescence.
They’ve missed out on the millions of ground contacts they would have accumulated runnings around outside and instead are stuck behind a screen.
This makes traditional weight training methods harder to implement because the kids simply don’t have a good foundation of athleticism they used to have 15-20 years ago.
I’ve been squatting since 21 years old and I’m 27 and when I warm up I just do singles all the way to my working set I’ve never done more than 1 rep on a set for warm ups.
Not saying anyone should do this but it works for me reps make me very tired quick
@AdamArchuleta And lifting weights is shown to increase the speed at which kids learn to do all of that and more. The increases in strength are literally the downstream effect of using external resistance to program everything above.
Here is an example of how we gamify training. 4 athletes total I split them into two groups of even athletic ability. Each group got 20 total BW jump attempts (10 each kid), highest total wins. Winning team got $40!!
Build an overcapacity in athletes…
Two soccer athletes are playing against each other:
If athlete “A” has a top speed of 23 MPH
& Athlete “B” has a top speed of 16 MPH
Athlete “B” will gas out more quickly because their max speed is less than athlete “As”.
As they both chase the ball down all game, Athlete “A” only needs to accelerate to a sub maximal speed in order to beat athlete “B” to the ball. While athlete “B” has to do repeated max effort bouts.
Speed kills.
SSB Yoke Bar Squats, highly underrated exercise for upper back development. Your traps are put under immense isometric load during the entire movement.
Speed is what gets you paid.
A fast 40 yard dash is always going to be in style. Even if we get rid of them the fastest players on the field will still be extremely valuable .
