’’میں ان کے بال کاٹ دینا چاہتا ہوں!‘‘

یہ الفاظ کسی عام شخص کے نہیں، بلکہ نواز شریف کے تھے، جو اپنے دوسرے دورِ اقتدار میں قومی اسمبلی کے ایوان میں گرج برس رہے تھے۔ ان کے غیظ و غضب کا نشانہ وہ لمبے بالوں والے، جینز اور جیکٹوں میں ملبوس موسیقار تھے جنہوں نے اقتدار کے ایوانوں میں بیٹھے حکمرانوں کو للکارنے کی جسارت کی تھی۔
جس کا نام تھا “جنون”۔

لیکن آخر ایسا کیا ہوا تھا کہ اقتدار کے ایوانوں میں کھلبلی مچ گئی؟

اس داستان کا پس منظر سمجھنے کے لیے ذرا 1995ء کی طرف لوٹنا ہوگا۔

اس سال ایک ایسا شرم ناک انکشاف سامنے آیا جس نے عوام کو غم و غصے سے بھر دیا۔ 316 بااثر شخصیات نے زکوٰۃ کے ان فنڈز سے حج کی سعادت حاصل کی جو دراصل غریبوں، ناداروں اور معاشرے کے محروم طبقات کی فلاح و بہبود کے لیے مختص تھے۔

اور ستم بالائے ستم یہ کہ اس شاہانہ سفر کی منظوری خود اُس وقت کی وزیراعظم بے نظیر بھٹو نے دی تھی!

سرکاری خزانے اور مستحقین کے حق پر کیے گئے اس سفر میں اپنے اہلِ خانہ سمیت شامل ہونے والوں میں وفاقی و صوبائی وزرا، قومی و صوبائی اسمبلیوں کے اراکین، سینیٹرز اور اعلیٰ سرکاری افسران شامل تھے۔

وزیراعظم اور صدرِ مملکت پر سنگین بدعنوانی کے الزامات عائد ہوئے۔

جب یہ انکشافات منظرِ عام پر آئے تو عوامی غم و غصہ ایک طوفان کی صورت اختیار کر گیا۔ ہر طرف احتساب کے مطالبات گونجنے لگے۔ گلی کوچوں سے لے کر سیاسی اجتماعات تک ’’سیاسی احتساب‘‘ کا نعرہ بلند ہونے لگا۔

“جنون” بینڈ بھانپ چکا تھا کہ اب خاموش رہنے کا نہیں، بلکہ اپنے فن کے ذریعے اقتدار کے ایوانوں کو آئینہ دکھانے کا وقت آن پہنچا ہے۔

چنانچہ انہوں نے ایک ایسا گیت تخلیق کیا جو محض موسیقی نہیں، بلکہ عوام کے اجتماعی غصے، بے بسی اور بیدار ہوتے ہوئے شعور کی ترجمانی بن گیا۔

اس گیت کا نام تھا:

’’احتساب‘‘!

یہ ایک ایسا ولولہ انگیز اور کاٹ دار گیت تھا جو ایک طرف بدعنوان سیاست دانوں کی منافقت، لوٹ مار اور عیاشیوں کا پردہ چاک کرتا تھا، تو دوسری طرف ان سادہ لوح عوام پر بھی طنز کے نشتر برساتا تھا جو بار بار انہی چہروں کے ہاتھوں دھوکا کھانے کے باوجود پھر انہی کے فریب کا شکار ہو جاتے تھے۔

نوٹ:
“لیکن اس سارے احتساب، طنز، تنقید اور للکار میں ایک بات نہایت معنی خیز تھی: ملک کی مسلح افواج کے خلاف ایک لفظ تک نہیں کہا گیا تھا!”

گیت کی ویڈیو میں استعمال ہونے والی علامتیں بھی اپنی مثال آپ تھیں۔

ان میں ایک انتہائی دلچسپ اور طنزیہ منظر ایک گھوڑے کا تھا، جو کسی مہنگے اور پُرتعیش ریستوران میں شاہانہ انداز سے کھانا تناول کر رہا تھا۔
یہ منظر محض تفریح کے لیے نہیں تھا، بلکہ آصف علی زرداری پر ایک گہرا طنز تھا، جو نوے کی دہائی میں اس وقت شدید تنقید کی زد میں آئے تھے جب ان کے گھوڑوں کو پھلوں سے تیار کردہ قیمتی مربے کھلائے جانے کی ویڈیو منظرِ عام پر آئی تھی۔

یوں ’’احتساب‘‘ محض ایک گیت نہیں رہا تھا۔ یہ حکمران اشرافیہ کی مراعات، بدعنوانی اور عوامی وسائل کی بندربانٹ کے خلاف ایک بے باک احتجاج بن چکا تھا۔

اس کے بول، اس کی دھن اور اس کی علامتیں سب مل کر اقتدار کے ایوانوں میں بیٹھے ان لوگوں کے چہروں سے نقاب اتار رہی تھیں جو خود کو عوام کا خادم کہتے تھے، مگر عوام کے وسائل پر عیش و عشرت کے مزے لوٹ رہے تھے۔

اور پھر وہی ہوا جو ایسے معاشروں میں اکثر ہوتا ہے، جہاں حکمرانوں کو اپنی اصلاح سے زیادہ اپنے ناقدین کی آواز دبانے کی فکر لاحق ہوتی ہے۔

نواز شریف کی حکومت اس گیت کی بے باکی اور اس میں چھپے سیاسی طنز کو برداشت نہ کر سکی۔

’’جنون‘‘ کو حکومتی عتاب کا سامنا کرنا پڑا اور بالآخر سرکاری ٹیلی ویژن اور ریڈیو پر اس بینڈ کی نشریات پر پابندی عائد کر دی گئی۔

اقتدار سے احتساب مانگنے والوں کا جواب احتساب سے نہیں، پابندیوں سے دیا گیا!

آج بھی یہی عمل جاری ہے، بس ایک اضافہ یہ ہوگیا ہے کہ ان عوام دشمن جماعتوں کو عوام پہ مسلط کرنے والے اصلی کردار اب کھل کے سامنے آچکے ہیں.

آج بھی احتساب کا نعرہ بلند کرنے والی جماعت تحریک انصاف عتاب کا شکار ہے اور سابق وزیر اعظم عمران خان اس بدبودار نظام کو برہنہ کرنے اور احتساب کا مطالبہ کرنے کی پاداش میں خاندان سمیت جیل میں ناحق قید ہیں!
دہائیوں سے جاری عسکری و سیاسی مافیا کی وارداتیں آج بھی جاری ہیں.

جو ہم سمجھے تھے زنجیریں، وہ اب سازِ بغاوت ہیں
صدائے طوق کا ہر سُر، حریفِ ناخدا نکلا

وہاں مسند نشینوں کے، کلیجے منہ کو آتے ہیں
سوالِ عدل جب اُس کے، لبوں سے برملا نکلا

یہاں تدبیر کے سارے ہی نشتر، ٹوٹ کر بکھرے
جسے تم قید کہتے ہو، وہ اُس کا مورچہ نکلا

وہیں بیٹھا ہے وہ جم کر، وہیں سے جنگ جاری ہے
حقیقت میں وہی حجرہ، بقا کا راستہ نکلا

پڑھایا تھا ہمیں جس نے، نصابِ عاشقی سارا
وہی مقتل کے سائے میں، سراپائے وفا نکلا

For the older men and women in power, it’s over. The young generation isn’t buying any of what you’re trying to sell to them. No matter how many talks and seminars you arrange in schools and colleges, trying to promoting patriotism, it isn’t working. Patriotism comes naturally, when there is equal opportunity, sound infrastructure and efficient mechanisms in place. When you provide your people with basic necessities and ensure people get their rights, you won’t have to go to schools and colleges to tell students that they are supposed to love their country, they already will nonetheless.
Young minds, the Gen Z, the alphas, they know exactly what is happening and despite your consistent efforts of trying to sell your views of patriotism to them, they are seeing right through it. Thanks to the internet, thanks to whatever little education we have left, despite your best efforts of keeping the masses as illiterate as possible, you have failed. You have failed to
tell people what to think, they are thinking for themselves. They might be a little too scared to speak their minds because they prefer breathing. But they see right through the façade of self-righteousness and virtue that you’ve meticulously put together. You may be able to stay in power by using power but the people could not care less about you. You can’t even step outside your house without security, if that doesn’t speak enough about your popularity amongst people, you need to reevaluate things.
The younger lot has had enough and because they have learned that they cannot challenge the powers, they’re leaving the country. I would be too idealistic to think that they would lead a movement against corruption. They’d rather take a silent, quiet exit and not look back because their friends, who spoke up, were silenced.
But for the boomers, it’s over. There is no future for them. There seems to be a massive disconnect between the young population and the current re-
gime. There is no mutual ground. The Gen Z wants faster internet, the ones in power want a stronger firewall. The Gen Z wants cheaper smartphones, the boomers want smartphones to be taxed. The Gen Z wants eased restrictions on freelancing, the boomers want to increase regulations on freelancing. There seems to be no common ground amongst them. That is exactly why the boomers have lost.
You can orchestrate all the wars you want; Gen Z will make memes out of it. Censor all the mainstream media, Gen Z will jump to platforms like Rumble, YouTube and Discord to voice their opinions. Boomers, you cannot censor thoughts now. Gone are the days when you could fool the people. No one’s being fooled anymore. Yes, we don’t have libraries. Yes, we cannot afford to rent an apartment. Yes, we cannot afford to buy a car anymore. All thanks to your efforts, the economy handed down to us is worse than your morals.
But despite all that, we continue to trudge along, finding solace in books, social media, coffee shops (as much as I despise them) and double patty beef burgers. We continue to navigate across the murky waters. We don’t watch when you talk on TV because most of the times whatever you say is hysterical. We have stand-up comedy for that, why watch mainstream media?
Times are changing and the sooner you realise the better. But you don’t care either. Your children are abroad, you’re making millions every single day, you enjoy vast, unchecked power, you eat the finest of foods and drink only the cleanest of water, why would you care?
You will when you realise no one’s listening to you.
You know why?
Gen Z has their headphones on and their Spotify paid for, if the situation becomes unbearable, half of them will have enough resources to

In the last few weeks there have been serious and concerning developments regarding my sons’ father, Imran Khan’s treatment in prison. The Pakistan authorities have stopped all visits to him by his family and his lawyers. They have also postponed all court hearings. In addition to cutting off in- person visits, and in defiance of a court order, his weekly calls to his sons, Sulaiman and Kasim Khan, who are British and who live in London, were stopped on 10th September. We have received reports that the authorities have now turned off the lights and electricity in his cell and he is no longer allowed to leave his cell at any time. The jail cook has been sent on leave. He is now completely isolated, in solitary confinement, literally in the dark, with no contact with the outside world. His lawyers are concerned about his safety and well-being.

These actions come in the context of ongoing targeting of Imran’s family, as well as his party (PTI) members and supporters in an attempt to silence them and all political opposition in Pakistan. Imran’s nephew, Hassan Niazi, a civilian, has been detained in military custody since August 2023. More recently, Imran Khan’s sisters, Uzma and Aleema Khan, who have continued to speak out on his behalf, have also been arrested as they made their way peacefully to a demonstration and they are currently being held in jail, despite there being no proper or lawful basis for their imprisonment.

In June this year the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found that Imran is unlawfully and arbitrarily detained and called for his immediate release.

 As a matter of urgency , we are calling for Imran Khan’s release, and for the release of his sisters and nephew as well as for his sons’ contact with their father to be re-established, so that they may have assurance first-hand that he is well and not being mistreated.
