NYC Department of Education representatives said on Tuesday the DOE:
•Doesn’t know if they did any audits of vendors to ensure compliance w data privacy agreements
•they do not have 3rd party independent research to support the EdTech products they spend millions $ a year for
I find it funny how people invent hypothetical threats against Mamdani to justify keeping Jessica Tisch as NYPD Commissioner. “Maybe they threatened him behind the scenes!” “Maybe his life is at risk!” Based on what?
I’ve been brutalized by the NYPD multiple times and am suing them. Their former highest-ranking uniformed officer publicly threatened me with violence and arrest, while another top official tried to discredit my account of police ripping off my hijab by releasing footage taken after it happened.
None of that has stopped me from demanding justice for New Yorkers subjected to police violence or Palestinians subjected to the NYPD’s collaboration with Israeli occupation forces.
And if the NYPD is supposedly so dangerous that even the mayor can’t challenge its leadership, isn’t that an even stronger argument for confronting its power rather than accommodating it?
Why should ordinary people be expected to risk their safety fighting institutions that elected officials are excused from challenging?
How have Muslim governments responded to the genocide in Palestine? They’ve bombed and committed atrocities against the poorest nations in the ummah: Sudan, Afghanistan and Yemen.
One of my more judgy parenting opinions is that you all are pushing your kids in strollers way too long. 2-year-olds should walk.
Kids in the wagons with their snack pouches, water bottles, and battery operated fans look like the humans in Wall-E to me
I need you to understand how bizarre all of this has been. Newly elected New York City mayors of the past have universally ALWAYS replaced the top police leadership to install their own handpicked choice to better assert their vision. It's usually one of their first moves.
Yet Zohran; this anti-establishment poster boy ushering in a wave of socialist, radical notions and revolutionary politics, is the notable exception to this trend when he retained Jessica Tisch as NYPD Commissioner.
This was the fundamental litmus test to whether he would be successful in truly fending off zionist and establishment co-option efforts/ pressure to assert their status quo in this regard. And for all the good he is doing on empowering New Yorkers economically, he failed in this specific aspect, in a way no one before him has.
Jessica Tisch is a vocal, ardent and uncompromising zionist (see her past speech at the ADL), her continuation into Zohran's administration is genuinely as remarkable as it is unfathomable.
For all the corrupt, crooked politics Eric Adams and his office endorsed; for all the abuses of his authority and wheeling and dealing he did particularly to cater to the mega-rich and powerful zionist class of the city; for all their vitriol and animated hostility towards Zohran and his ideological vision/ base— that he kept on such a fundamental component piece of that interest group in one of the most prominent positions within the city's political architecture— is truly astounding.
Particularly given the authority she wields; the very literal monopoly on violence which has historically been used to assert not just the interests of the corporate elites Zohran claims to be confronting, but especially against agitators and aggressors attempting to break the influence of zionist power over the city and country.
When he knows of her family's vast influence and ties to Israel; her father, James Tisch (chairman of Loews Corporation), previously served on the executive committee of AIPAC. Her prominent billionaire family has a overwhelming track record of funding all forms of zionist lobbying, propaganda and influence in the United States.
Zohran knew there was a disproportionate bias she explicitly holds towards the zionist entity— a favorability she would invariably execute through force. And has been permitted to do so now; as recently seen with the clampdown on hundreds of protestors demonstrating against Netanyahu's presence in the city a few weeks ago.
His decision to keep Tisch is eerily similar to how Obama, who came into office riding a wave of popularity stoked up by his opposition to the (Republican) Bush administration's wars overseas, retained Bush's Defense Secretary Robert Gates when he came into office.
For all his campaigning on *change* and promises to end the occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan, he persisted with keeping intact one of the most integral parts of that mandate— those wars never ended as a result.
Inheriting a key figure from your fierce political rival? Choosing not to replace them is not customary— to keep any cabinet member from the previous administration. Ever. Which made it so strange at the time. That you claim to be opposed in every metric to that past administration in practice and ideals, yet carry forward with a critical member from it?
It seems to be the exact same phenomenon as Obama here. For all his rousing rhetoric denouncing the zionist lobby and its stranglehold; for all his promises of a cultural change to the contemporary political infrastructure— he has submitted to their demands rather than resisting them.
He has seemingly taken the revolutionary fervor that existed in the city to get him into office and now it's the same old lines.
CLAIM: The ICE agents wore construction vests and masks that concealed their faces. There was no reasonable way to identify them as ICE agents.
FACT: This illegal alien was the subject of a targeted enforcement action. What makes someone a target for immigration enforcement is whether or not they are illegally in the U.S.
Love how all the issues w public schools are placed on teachers/teachers union when admin and the DOE hand them scripted curriculum. Teachers have 0 autonomy in the classroom. If your kid is not learning it’s the admins failure by pushing curriculum and methods that don’t work
Today, Gov. Hochul announced that New York State will opt into the Trump administration's voucher program. Giving up local control of public education to the federal government through this scheme is a failure of leadership. Gov. Hochul will bear the responsibility, but our students, educators, and families will bear the price. The UFT is disappointed in this decision and we will continue to stand with parents, educators and public school supporters to do what we can to roll back this policy and protect our classrooms. People keep saying that those protesting Mamdani are just ultras or unserious people with no goal but it seems when you look at their actual demands that they’re relatively modest and in the case of the SRG just what he campaigned on. If you support him, you should want that too.
We warned you about NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
When Mamdani announced he was keeping her as NYPD Commissioner, we organized over 100 organizations to oppose her appointment and laid out her record of racist policing, mass surveillance, repression of protesters, and collaboration with Israeli occupation forces.
These demands came from the streets, from the communities that have been subjected to this violence for years. The movement was right to oppose Tisch then, and we’re right to demand her resignation now.
We are recirculating our statement and calling on every organization that has not yet signed to add its name.
TISCH OUT. DISBAND THE SRG. ABOLISH ICE.

I condemn Saudi Arabia’s ten-year war on Yemen and its siege on our country. For the past two months, Saudi Arabia has been bombing Yemen every day—between 50 and 100 airstrikes, killing Yemenis and destroying infrastructure, including bridges.
So when I hear, “We condemn the attack on Riyadh airport,” I think of Sana’a’s airport, which Saudi Arabia already destroyed. Saudi Arabia has devastated our country and destroyed so much of what we had. That is all I have to say.
Rozario’s mother addressed the mayor directly: “You came to my home and said you would be a different kind of mayor. We feel betrayed by you. Jessica Tisch ... let Alongi retire without a trial. It seems like you are just letting this happen.” https://t.co/q98QiVIbby
Today the Saudis targeted a home in Hajja killing a mom, her 5 children, and leaving two wounded.
Yesterday, they ran over unarmed POWs (prisoners), and stripped a dead soldiers clothes while filming everything themselves.
The day before they targeted a girls school killing several students and injuring others.
A week before they targeted a civilian home and a hospital.
The month before they targeted a prison in Al Jawf.
Two months before they targeted Sanaa international airport threatening a civilian flight.
They targeted a school bus.
They targeted a funeral.
They targeted a recreation center.
They targeted Yemen and Yemenis.
So many war crimes have been committed since 2015 and much more before that. We are documenting everything.
We will not forget.
Why wasn’t a Saudi-Pakistani-Turkish alliance formed to support our brothers and sisters in Gaza? Why was one formed only to kill the Yemeni people, who supported Gaza militarily?
No one in Yemen curses the sahaba. This is right up there with the lie that houthis banned Quran recitation during Ramadan in 2022 when I was literally living there and waking up to the sound of Quran recitation over the mosque speakers every morning.
Yemen is not Syria or Lebanon. There are no 12ers there and Zaydi Shias don’t curse the sahaba. There of course are attempts by Iran to impose their ideologies in Yemen, but we don’t accept this anymore than people in Gaza whose fighters are also backed by Iran.
