Often I post about my own work or activities but I want to show off some of our fantastic societies. Every day I get blown away by new projects by socs, these pics are just a (tiny) sample of what I came across on my timeline today! @uos_mcs@stirpsychsoc@StirlingUniDram

@laineyshep@scottish_water@scotgov Sewage related debris is also a significant issue in Scotland. Recent MCS Scottish parliamentary briefing: https://t.co/phKE0QrIli
@laineyshep@scottish_water@scotgov Sadly discharge of sewage into Scottish waters is a growing problem (40% increase of spills over last 5 years). Severe weather (climate change) being blamed by overwhelming urban sewage systems & also restriction to act from Westminster (funding)
Just a note to anyone who was planning to attend h @uos_mcs cleanup tomorrow: following 60+ signups & difficulty acquiring transport for the group, we’ve had to postpone to next Sunday (26th)
Still 10:30am-12:30pm at Kinneil however ☺️
@2050ClimateGrp Our President @thatsealgirl would be a brilliant addition to discuss the role of the ocean/marine ecosystems in combatting the climate crisis & importance of marine conservation efforts 🌊
Did you hear? June 8th is World Ocean Day! 💙🌊
I’ll be joining a panel of brilliant young ocean activists & discussing the need for stricter Scottish marine protections, such as reinstating the inshore limit & no-take zones.

‘37% of our Scottish seas have MPA designation’
Watch this video. This is still being allowed to happen in our ‘protected’ areas. Does this look like protection to you?
@scotgov@NicolaSturgeon @MairiGougeon you have to reinstate #TheLimit, urgently.
Four years ago, the Scottish Government promised to safeguard seabed habitats throughout Scotland’s coastal waters from bottom-trawling and scallop dredging. Will our new Government finally implement these urgent measures?
We did it all despite a pandemic, unable to host society meetings in person as normal.
Cannot begin to describe how proud we are of the little family we’ve built at UoS MCS & we’ll forever be grateful to all those who have worked with us to get here 💙 #OceanOptimism
Many people, when it comes to issues impacting the marine environment, think of coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef or plastic pollution in the Pacific. But how many people know what’s happening in our own waters?
Scottish seas are in trouble. We need to talk about it.
17.65kg (1,467 individual items) cleared from @StirUni campus on Saturday!
Includes 596 cigarette butts alone, with 977 total plastic/polystyrene items lifted.
If you take it with you, take it away. Our campus is beautiful, let’s make sure it stays that way.
