Most markets are a positive sum game, not zero sum.
You don't always need for your major competitor to lose in order for you to win.
Example: Microsoft and Apple have been rivals for decades.
Both are currently worth over $2 TRILLION (with a "T") each.
Both companies *won*.
Lastly, weโre sharing for the first time some numbers on Stripeโs enterprise business:
- Stripeโs enterprise segment is growing faster than 100% year-over-year
- Stripe now powers more than 40 category leaders with >$1 billion of payment volume on Stripe.
@tobi@asenkut@ycombinator@Shopify@harleyf They are probably not going to make the mistake they made with @tobi. "If Shopify ran on all 40K e-commerce websites (then), that's not a big business." They now know better (maybe) that the reason there were only 40K shops online was because Shopify didn't exist.
More on running @Redfin during the pandemic: i-buying's moment of reckoning, a distortion in the mortgage market that left lenders in the lurch, a board call's abrupt end, & how well-intentioned forbearance laws are now limiting who can buy homes. https://t.co/RXlUBloXtm
What it has been like to run a public company in the last 60 days: a rogue project to virtualize home tours, a frenzied asset sell-off, a mortgage freeze-up, a Bernie board moment, a furlough, an un-furlough, & from our employees, a near-religious grace: https://t.co/bv4Mcfg5rP
AWS systematically calling all its clients, asking survey questions about the stability of their businesses and their revenues, and proactively working with them to cut AWS billing costs. Had a nice conversation with our account manager. You baking that in to your AMZN model?
After years of focusing on long-term projects and pushing day-to-day management to deputies, Jeff Bezos is taking on here-and-now problems facing Amazon. The company is grappling with a surge in demand, labor unrest and supply chain challenges. https://t.co/XcGh8nRQ0a
@andrewrsorkin When he ran Alcoa, he told investors he could succeed only by winning over labor, and he could do that only by seeming like he cared about worker safety, and he could do that only by actually, genuinely caring about worker safety. Itโs good to remember that during this pandemic.
There's a moment halfway through this podcast, when the CEO of a small ventilator co talks about what happens when GM spins up the power of its supply chain mgt to help them, that gives me goosebumps.
We tend to underappreciate scale. https://t.co/FF1s3FkvxT
The thoughtful and curious @schoeny interviews me about the only company rejected by more venture investors than @Redfin, why I'm still here, and what I learned from @CLEARcaryn. https://t.co/yrq8pDvKOr
The only shortcoming of his podcast is that you can't see his luscious hair!
Our 2020 ad campaign starts today, with billboards promoting same-day home tours, & a TV ad showing our site bringing buyers to a listing. It was even funnier pre-Photoshop, with all these cables dragging actors across conference rooms & down sidewalks... https://t.co/XmKOpK8014
