The odds of having dementia at age 85 were close to 1 in 3 in the 80s; now they are 1 in 10.
I don’t think we have a great explanation: better cardiovascular health, diet, and education are often mentioned. Good news nonetheless.
Carnall Farrar. (2025, March 27). Dementia trends.
In double-blind placebo-controlled trials, 'gluten-sensitive' people who *think* they're going to eat gluten have reactions.
But if they don't expect gluten, there's no reaction.
Expectancy has a bigger effect than actually eating gluten!

Incredibly interesting result here.
Combining rapamycin with exercise didn't help and may have even impaired exercise adaptations in older adults!
Reminds me of metformin (also once marketed as a "longevity drug"), which also blunts exercise adaptations in certain contexts.
.@BradStanfieldMD remortgaged his house to get this trial over the line, which would make anyone invested in getting a positive result: but they didn’t get one and, true to character, he tells it straight.
Disappointing, but science sometimes is:
Our Rapamycin & Exercise clinical trial has just been published!
The topline result?
Rapamycin didn't help. Instead, it may have made things worse.

Exactly 25 years ago today, I scored my first — and only — professional goal.
Contrary to what I believed at the time, goalkeepers are not allowed to handle the ball in both penalty areas.
The goal was disallowed and I was sent off — still it earned me legendary status. 😉

Khamenei is dead. Good.
But I have family in Iran. My dad is there right now. And I'm not celebrating yet. Here's why.
Iran built the most layered contingency plan on Earth for this exact moment. Four levels of succession for every key position. Pre-authorized military strikes. Regional commanders who don't need orders from Tehran to act.
As you read this, there is already a new Supreme Leader. We just don't know who.
This isn't Maduro. The government didn't get overthrown. The system absorbed the hit. That's what it was designed to do.
Every credible intel assessment says the same thing: a post-Khamenei Iran is more likely to get harder, not softer. More IRGC. More dangerous. Potentially worse for the Iranian people than Khamenei himself.
Don't breathe yet. There's a long way to go.
