@Hitchslap1 Well, if a Subway worker made a breakthrough contribution to number theory, a McDonald's worker can contribute to quantum gravity.
We've cut so many tenure track jobs that there are certainly some physics PhDs working in McDonald's.
@JasonPaulMosher You won't get a more satisfying answer than that. We don't really know that spacetime is curved. We have a field theory, and it happens to have a geometric description. We get the field theory from effective field theory, but it's unlikely we'll go any further than that.
@simonmaechling You work hard to become competent at something, and manage to publish results in a good journal. If you're lucky, someone might cite it someday.
Then some crank posts a theory that you know is obviously wrong and gets all the attention from everyone.
@gxonio@CNLiberalism More like modernity is toxic for humanity. Every developed nation save for one is experiencing a demographic collapse, and as far as anyone can tell, it's irreversible.
@GregTrayling@ExploreCosmos_ I thought it was the other way around. We put all this effort into creating theories of everything, and now struggle to turn them into theories of nothing.
@AdamZivo The problem with this solution is that it will require hiring more faculty.
This is contrary to the modern university mission of maximizing the number and pay of administrators. In the modern university, administration is essential and faculty is optional.
@ArtemisConsort@REDavidson3 All that matter is Jesus. He, despite being God incarnate, sacrificed everything for you, died, then rose from the dead. For me, there is none other worthy of being my God. Hold on to Him, ask Him to guide you, and He will take care of you.
