Today is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.
Today, we celebrate the volunteers and staff who show up every day, bringing compassion, dignity and hope, and working to ensure that even in the darkest moments, humanity is never lost.
They are often the first to arrive and the last to leave, supporting their own communities with courage and care.
Today, we celebrate the power of being United in Humanity. #8May
To mourn the loss of eight Palestine Red Crescent members killed in Gaza, and stand in solidarity with colleagues in Palestine and other places where humanitarian workers have died, the flags at our IFRC Geneva headquarters are flying at half-mast. A ninth @PalestineRCS member remains missing.
Today, alongside IFRC President Kate Forbes @KateForbes_IFRC, we hosted an event to reflect, grieve, and reaffirm our commitment to protecting humanitarian workers everywhere.
These dedicated ambulance workers were responding to wounded people. They were humanitarians. They wore emblems that should have protected them; their ambulances were clearly marked.
We must protect humanity.
#HurricaneBeryl made landfall as a category 4 hurricane on Wednesday afternoon in Jamaica.
@Jamaicaredcross and its partners are ready to develop rapid assessments and distribute prepositioned essential relief items.
Happy World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day!
Today we celebrate the incredible work done by our Red Cross and Red Crescent staff and volunteers around the world.
Every day, they keep Humanity alive, providing comfort to people in desperate need – sometimes paying the highest price.
This World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, let's honour their service, bravery and sacrifice.
Thank you for everything you do, thank you for being beacons of hope for Humanity. #RedCrossDay #RedCrescentDay

Governments need to prepare for the next pandemic by establishing an international ‘vaccine bank’ which ensures the availability and distribution of vaccines equitably worldwide.
That’s the recommendation of a new report based on a major IFRC study into the impact of COVID-19.
We forcefully reiterate our call for unwavering respect for the Red Crescent emblem and the crucial humanitarian services it represents.
Protection of patients and @PalestineRCS health care workers is not negotiable. #NotATarget#IHL

In Gaza, the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate; the needs are staggering.
There is a severe lack of all basic necessities and any incoming aid is currently difficult to bring to all parts of Gaza.
We urgently need safe and unhindered humanitarian access to deliver life saving aid into Gaza.

Hospitals in Gaza are running out of everything, medicines, food, water and fuel.
This is causing a collapse in critical health services.
Safe and unhindered access across Gaza is desperately needed now.
Amidst the devastation, a remarkable child has displayed exceptional artistic talent, creating beautiful artworks, including a drawing of Al-Quds Hospital.
This child and her family now reside at the Hospital, following their displacement from northern #Gaza.
@PalestineRCS
We are deeply concerned by the escalation of hostilities in Gaza. Our colleagues @PalestineRCS are working 24/7 to meet the urgent humanitarian needs.
We lost contact with them in the blackout.
All we know is that humanitarians, health workers and civilians are #NotATarget.
The dramatic escalation of hostilities in Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territories led to immense suffering.
Civilians - including women and children, the elderly, and the wounded and sick - are currently paying the highest price.
Civilians must be respected and protected.
❌ 12,000 displaced people, including 70% children and women, are in imminent danger after Israeli forces threatened to bomb Al-Quds Hospital and demanded evacuation. This place could turn to ashes if those threats are carried out.
#GazaUnderAttack#NotATarget
There are no words to describe the level of human suffering.
Hospitals must be sanctuaries for all. They must be protected under international humanitarian law. #NotATarget
To meet the huge needs in Gaza, @IFRC@ICRC@unicef@WFP@WHO & others have mobilized both staff & life-saving supplies.
@EG_Red_Crescent are ready to deliver supplies to @PalestineRCS when access becomes available.
