@sfrantzman Not a good analogy. The kids and the parents were taken hostage, with the Chechens demanding an end to Russia's war in Chechnya. Most of the deaths occurred due to an (accidental?) explosion that set the gym on fire and then Russian forces storming the school.

I vividly remember my visit to Moscow in 1990, when grocery stores, in order to protect Moscow's relative plenty from hungry provincial hordes, demanded passports.

Day 2 of the constitutional crisis in Hungary is here.
👉It is objectively a crisis it's not a narrative: the parliament passed legislation that effectively ends the term of the sitting president prematurely as a one-off.
👉The legislation only comes to force if the target of the legislation, the president signs it. This is a paradox, that is the source of the crisis.
👉It is unlikely Tamás Sulyok would do that without sending the whole of the 17th amendment to the Constitutional Court for a review.
👉The CC is packed with Orbán loyalists, who then would bury the bill for a considerable time.
👉Péter Magyar said Sulyok has 5 days to sign his departure. If this does not happen in timeframe, parliamentary majority will impeach him.
👉Orbán, others signalled Sulyok may not leave upon such an impeachment, and that they think the authority of a new president would be "null and void".

@michaeldweiss Idk if they really believed that. In other parts of the article it says they understood it was a long shot, but with the unrest in Jan 2026 and Trump's willingness (gullibility?) to launch a campaign, they thought it was an opportunity.
