Becoming a GP - it’s easy🤦🏻♂️
Minimum
5yrs medical school
2yrs in hospital
GP Training

Continuous e-portfolio work placed assessment
AKT exam
Oral exam
Only then a GP is free to safely see undifferentiated (undiagnosed) patients without any supervision
@DrAnimeshSingh Psychiatry has had this issue for many years. I lost count of the number of patients who thought they had already seen a psychiatrist, when they had seen Dr X, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, using their psychology doctorate title to further their aggrandisement
I am proud to call @doctor_oxford a colleague as we were on strike together in Oxford as junior doctors in 2016
A decade later, not a single thing is better for residents than it was then
@wesstreeting is a copying @Jeremy_Hunt playbook nearly verbatim
@JoshFG It costs taxpayers £250k to train a doctor, so you're happy for 50% of them to be unemployed or go to Australia. And using something that needs to be done for the sake of the taxpayers as a bargaining chip is shameful
@ian_lawley@jabberwock951 I'm old enough to remember when doctors were held in high regard and paid accordingly. I was one. Having a vocation and being paid well are not mutually exclusive
@DHSCgovuk This is a disgrace. Using something that is essential and obvious, both economically and for the good of the population as a bargaining chip is shameful
Us juvenile delinquents perform brain surgery for £43/hr, singlehandedly take care of multiple wards overnight for ~£23/hr, deliver babies in distress for £38/hr.
Oh wait, no, sorry... that's what we're asking for, we actually earn much less. And some of us don't have jobs at all.
So hey @wesstreeting, how about less bleating?

"You've got Streeting, treating people who want to save lives like the enemy.. we always turn on the workers & at the end of the day if my life needed saving its not going to be [politicians] who are saving it, its going to be the drs"
@NancyFielder on #PoliticsLive. Well said!
@RidgeandFrost@SophyRidgeSky He's relying on the strikes to go ahead so he can blame them for his failure to improve the NHS. Just a continuation of the previous govt's approach
Absolutely vital that Resident #Doctors continue to strike until they get a reasonable deal. Right wing media will attack, but ignore them. The public rely on the profession in their darkest moments

GPs are the frontline of the #NHS, yet funding hasn’t kept pace with demand.
A new contract must prioritise prevention, fair access and support for deprived communities.
Investing in general practice is investing in the whole NHS.

Thousands of doctors who could be cutting NHS waiting lists are being turned away; not because they aren’t needed, but because the Government caps how many can train to become Consultants/GPs.
This year 30,000 doctors applied for just 10,000 training jobs. Highly trained doctors who want to stay in the NHS are being blocked from progressing, and some are being forced out altogether. That means fewer doctors in hospitals and GP practices, and longer waits for patients.
The public feels the impact of this every day: longer waits, overstretched services, and fewer doctors available when you need them.
Despite this, the Government’s plan is to bring forward only 1,000 extra training places; far below what’s needed to meet public demand or build up the workforce.
On top of the jobs crisis, the Government has recommended a real terms pay cut rather than continuing the journey towards pay restoration. Those two factors together are why resident doctors were forced to strike again, and why we are now reballoting all grades of resident doctors from the 8th of December to the 2nd of February.

Vote YES for jobs and pay.
If we cannot recruit and retain NHS doctors, patients will be the ones who feel the impact. That is the reality the Government still refuses to address.
Whether you are a Physician or a Physician Assistant?
The policy from @NHSE_WTE@NHSEngland is so spasmodic it’s difficult to actually understand whether there is a plan.
Or anything at all.
@rcgp says no role for PA
@lengreview gives views
@NHSEngland and @wesstreeting accepts in full
And then.. there is money for “Physician Associate/Assistant Preceptorship Programme – Primary Care”
But no money for pay or posts for doctors
Honestly, some of you in leadership roles should just be in a comedy show.
Utter chaos and tomfoolery with lives and careers.
It’s hard to get a GP appointment! As GPs we agree because we are patients, parents, sons and daughter too.
But we also know how hard GPs are working to make sure it’s possible for as many people as possible to receive care.
The problem is there aren’t enough GPs in practices
In 30years I have never been this upset with the words coming out of Government
This includes a plethora of Tory Health Secretaries
I am not part of BMA leadership
I am just a GP who gives up his time freely to advocate for patients, the NHS & make sure the facts are correct
