When billionaires accuse other billionaires of monopolistic behaviour, it's called a public debate. When a small founder questions the same system, it becomes an existential business risk. The freedom to speak your mind is also a function of how much power you have.
Mr. Vembu, I came back after my Harvard programme wanting to build in India. I still do. But my experience has shaken my faith in the system.
I’m working in AI and healthcare. Even getting clarity on the regulatory pathway for a clinical validation study has been a struggle. In education, I’ve encountered resistance to adopting AI. My qualifications feel irrelevant when institutions won’t engage with the work. And when basic civic issues arise, police support has been difficult to secure.
Where is the conducive environment we’re asking people to return to?
Who is accountable for giving founders clear regulatory answers? How do educators evaluate new technology responsibly? Where does a citizen turn when local authorities don’t help? What recourse exists when nobody takes ownership?
You’ve built here. What concrete governance reforms would you push for and how can people like us help make them happen?
“Come back, let’s build” is a call I believe in. How do we make the system support those who answer it?
Ease of Doing Business → Tease of Doing Business?
Every regulator & Agency has a problem to solve. Lately, the solutions seem to be multiplying faster than the problems.
New circulars, rules, etc.
More regulation ≠ better regulation.
Sometimes, doing less could be better.
The loser has more in common with the winner than with the person sitting on the sidelines.
The winner and the loser each had the courage to try. Both risked embarrassment. Both were willing to face uncertainty. Both were stubborn enough to continue.
Success is endurance in disguise. It belongs to the person who can absorb the losses without absorbing the identity of "loser." It's the courage to start — and to stick with it — that is the real separator. Results tend to find the person who stays in the game.
The sidelines are safe, but sterile. Nothing grows there.
Do it, today.
Take that risk, today.
Take that chance, today.
Take that leap of faith, today.
Be with people that matter, today.
Start today.
If you are scared to be alone, get on a ride with people who are on that way.
Our time is limited, and it may be little late tomorrow to make a dent in this universe that leaves ‘your’ mark!
This is a very good article. I’ve often felt that the only reason people in Bangalore like the city is because they haven’t travelled to a truly world class city like London or Paris or Tokyo or even SF.
If they had, they wouldn’t accept the abysmal state of their own cities. India is desperately searching for newer ideas of development that embody aesthetic beauty, functionality, and convenient design, instead of brute forcing our way into “development.”
If you have ideas, my DMs are open. @AlterMagIndia would like to carry your words.
Our infrastructure shouldn’t be built only around cars. It should equally support pedestrians and cyclists, making our roads safer and more inclusive for everyone…@dev_fadnavis
What weekends look like nowadays! Just feel like Mumbai had dedicated cycling roads and general civic sense among people to ensure cyclists stay safe. @Dev_Fadnavis please do something 🙏🏻
