92% of travel agencies experienced a cyberattack or threat in the past year. 66% had customer data compromised.

We're talking credit card numbers, passport scans, dates of birth, home addresses, and full travel itineraries, all moving through booking systems, payment processors, and email inboxes every day at agencies usually defending themselves with a team of one.

New research from SecureTrust, a VikingCloud company, finds that 44% of agency owners manage cybersecurity entirely on their own, and 26% say the person doing the job isn't trained for it.

Meanwhile, 68% now rank cyberattacks as the single biggest threat to their business in 2026, ahead of inflation and recession.

The most practical place to start closing the gap: securing the payment environment, where the most sensitive customer data lives.

A data breach doesn't always start with a hacker. Sometimes it starts with a trusted partner.

A de-identified dataset covering 500,000 UK Biobank volunteers was listed for sale on Alibaba after researchers at three authorized institutions accessed the data. UK Biobank called it a clear breach of its data use contracts and revoked their access.

When oversight stops at the contract, organizations are left exposed to risks they didn't create and can't see coming.

You can harden your own stack and still get breached through a vendor you authorized. That's the lesson from the recent incident at Rockstar Games.

ShinyHunters didn't hit Rockstar directly. They compromised Anodot, a third-party SaaS monitoring tool, extracted authentication tokens, and pivoted into Rockstar's Snowflake environment. No exploit. Just stolen trust.

The fallout: 78.6 million records, 2.4 million support tickets, and eight years of internal KPIs now on a dark web leak site.
