Not just encroachment removal. We have also started repair of damages to the footpaths to improve walkability. We will spend ₹ 70 CR on repairs to footpaths.

🚶 BENGALURU'S FOOTPATHS ARE GETTING THEIR SPACE BACK

From July 1–10, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is running a 'Safe Footpath Campaign' across 1,000 km of road network — clearing encroachments from footpaths in all five city corporations.

📊 WHY THIS MATTERS

30% of every 1,000 road accident deaths in Bengaluru are pedestrians. The Supreme Court has been clear: walking on a footpath safely is a fundamental right, not a privilege.

🚫 WHAT'S BEING CLEARED
➡Illegal parking on footpaths (vehicles will be towed)
➡Name boards, chairs, tables, and kiosks blocking pedestrian paths
➡Vendors and shops spilling onto walkways

✅ HOW IT'S BEING DONE
➡Notices will be issued before any action — not a sudden crackdown
➡Action will follow the Street Vendors' Protection Act and SC guidelines
➡Municipal officers, police, and clearance teams will coordinate
➡Damaged slabs and kerbs will be repaired alongside clearance

It follows the #1KmChallenge encouraging people to walk short distances instead of driving — Bengaluru is trying to become more walkable, one footpath at a time.

ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷಾ ಕಲಿಕೆ ಕಾಯ್ದೆ- 2015ರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಸೇರಿ ಇತರೆ ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿನ ಕನ್ನಡೇತರ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೂ ಕನ್ನಡ ಕಲಿಸುವುದನ್ನುಕಡ್ಡಾಯಗೊಳಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಸಿಬಿಎಸ್‍ಇ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡವನ್ನು ಕಡ್ಡಾಯವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಥಮ ದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಭಾಷೆಯಾಗಿ ಕಲಿಸಬೇಕು. ಹೀಗಿದ್ದರೂ, ಎನ್‌ಸಿಇಆರ್‌ಟಿಯು ಈ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಾಲಿನಿಂದಲೇ 6ನೇ ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೃತೀಯ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನಾಗಿ (ಆರ್‌3) ಕನ್ನಡವನ್ನು ಕಡ್ಡಾಯವಾಗಿ ಕಲಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ಸೂಚಿಸಿರುವುದು ಬೇಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿತನದ ಪರಮಾವಧಿ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಸಿಬಿಎಸ್‌ಇ ಶಾಲೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಗೊಂದಲ ಉಂಟಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಕೂಡಲೇ ಈ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಹೊರಡಿಸಿರುವ ಸುತ್ತೋಲೆಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಪಡೆಯಬೇಕು.

Under the Kannada Language Learning Act of 2015, teaching Kannada to non-Kannada students is mandatory across all schools, including those under central and other curricula. Consequently, CBSE schools are legally required to teach Kannada as either a first or second language. Given this framework, the NCERT's recent directive to mandate Kannada as a third language (R3) for Class 6 starting this academic year is highly irresponsible. This directive has caused significant confusion among CBSE institutions, and the circular issued in this regard must be rescinded immediately.
