How my gym pays me a passive income...💰

I own a small unmanned 24/7 gym in the north of England. I have managed to turn it into a 95% passive income.

All the members pay via direct debit. When signing up each member gets a membership card that they use to scan in to the gym. If you don't have a card you can't unlock the door to get in.

I also rent the space to personal trainers. The trainers are all self employed and pay me monthly to use the gym. I don't interfere with anything they do. Aslong as they pay me I'm happy 😂. The trainers work in the gym 7 days per week so I have piece of mind if anything happens while I'm not there il be notified pretty quickly.

I have access to all the gym cameras on my phone and I can also unlock the door and see the door activity via an app on my phone.

My only essential jobs are to make sure new members have access cards, payments are up to date, the gym is clean and the equipment is safe and operational.

It takes maybe 1 hour per day to do this...

Setting the gym up this way has given me alot of freedom to earn money in other ways and also be around alot more to help with the kids.

It's taken about 10 years to get to this point but it's been worth it. I own all the equipment, there's no debt and the numbers are getting stronger year on year.

I don't have much in my pension pot but I have this! 💪

Seeing a girl for a bit who is on benefits and works 20 hours a week yet is holidaying in Florida this year while I can just about afford a few days In Portugal! Something seriously wrong in this country for that to be possible! Working is becoming pointless!

Why does everything feel fake?

We have a Congress that won't pass something 83% people want.

We have courts that release criminals faster than police can arrest them.

We have schools that graduate kids who can’t read.

We have colleges that charge $200K for degrees that don’t get you jobs.

We have a non-profit system that profits from our tax dollars.

We have a health care industry that profits from you staying sick.

We have “representatives” who don’t represent us.

We have “news” networks that report opinions and call them facts.

We have an insurance industry that fights every single claim.

None of it works the way they tell you it works.

And deep down, everyone knows it.

It just all feels so so fake…

I’ve been following this guy on Tik Tok. He’s 63, worked all his life and has found himself out of a job. He’s applying for loads and at the same time claiming job seekers. The job centre have made him do a brick laying course or they will cut off his allowance. Shocking system.
The course is basically killing him. He’s had chest pains during it. He’s 63! He’s only been out of work for 6 weeks. Seems so crazy.

The average person should rent forever and I say that as someone who builds homes for first time homebuyers a living.

Ownership is sometimes romanticized in this country to an unhealthy degree. People drain their savings, steal themselves to a 30 year mortgage and then spend every weekend doing maintenance on a depreciating structure they can't afford to leave.

Meanwhile the renter down the street has liquidity, mobility and zero exposure to a $15,000 HVAC or roof replacement.

A paid off house in a town you hate is a prison with a mailbox. I build homes because I love real estate, but I'd never tell someone to buy one just because society says they should.

Listen, there are plenty of people out there that homeownership makes sense for. Just not as many as society makes you believe.

I Paid off my mortgage last month. Thirty years.

Bank sent the deed over, congratulations, it's yours free and clear.

Two weeks later the county tax bill shows up. $9,400. And that's not a one time thing, that's every year until I die.

Stop paying it and eventually they take the house. The one I just spent three decades buying.

So what actually changed here?

For thirty years I paid a bank so I could live in my own house. Now I pay the county so I can live in my own house.

Different envelope. Same arrangement.

Nobody ever finishes paying for a home. You just run out of banks.

I bought my house in 1992 for £75000 and sold it in 2022 for £300k , I paid over £80k interest on my mortgage so technically I paid£150kI did home improvements of over ££150 on the 30 years which helped sell at that price so in reality I haven’t made a penny so tax that labour
