The Recipe Was Written on a Palm Leaf. Modern Labs Only Just Explained Why It Worked.
Inside the Padmanabhapuram Palace museum in Tamil Nadu sits a palm leaf manuscript nobody thought to take seriously as a scientific document for a very long time.
The palace complex itself is mainly 16th century Travancore construction, with later additions, and the manuscript reads, in effect, like a cooking recipe for that building tradition, except the dish is not food.
It is wall plaster.....
Jaggery. Kadukkai (a native fruit, Terminalia chebula). Neelamari, the indigo plant. Aloe vera. Egg. Mixed into lime, the manuscript names these organics as ingredients within the building tradition, and researchers have since tested them separately and in various combinations to work out what each one actually contributes.
For centuries, this just looked like folk tradition, until materials scientists actually ran it through a lab.
Researchers have approached this from 2 directions, in 2 separate peer-reviewed studies.
A 2020 paper in the European Physical Journal Plus analyzed actual historic mortar samples taken directly from the palace, wall plaster, bedding mortar, floor finish, using X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, infrared spectroscopy, and electron microscopy, confirming real organic residues (proteins, polysaccharides) baked into the centuries-old material itself, along with specific lime to sand ratios tuned differently for each application.
Then, in 2021, a separate study in Scientific Reports (part of the Nature portfolio) took the palm leaf recipe itself and recreated it from scratch in the lab, fermenting the named organic ingredients and testing the resulting lime putty with the same suite of modern instruments, to work out why the recipe behaves the way it does chemically.
That 2nd study is where the real mechanism shows up.
Fermenting the jaggery produces acetic acid, and the paper shows that acid reacts directly with the lime, forming calcium acetate and measurably helping hydration; the fermentation process also releases extra carbon dioxide, which speeds up carbonation and hardening.
Related research on this same family of recipes has found the organic additives encourage specific calcium oxalate crystal structures, including one called weddellite, that plain lime does not form the same way.
This was not superstition wrapped around a functional binder.
It was applied biochemistry, fermentation science, adhesive chemistry, and crystal engineering, encoded into a construction recipe long before anyone had a word for any of those fields.
A 2022 follow-up study simulating palace style mortars found the organic mixes reaching ~2.5 MPa in compressive strength versus about 1.5-1.8 MPa for a plain reference mix, meaningfully stronger.
The 2021 recipe-recreation study used a fairly small addition, around 3% fermented organic extract, to achieve its effects on setting time, water resistance, and carbonation speed.
Other studies on India's broader lime herb mortar tradition have reported larger strength gains in specific mixes and specific tests, this is genuinely a case where the exact multiplier depends heavily on which mix, which herb, and which test we are looking at, rather than one clean, universal number.
What is consistent across the literature is not a single dramatic ratio, it is that these fermented organic additives reliably, measurably outperform plain lime, discovered and refined entirely through trial, observation, and generations of accumulated craft, with zero access to a microscope / a chemistry textbook.
What makes this genuinely remarkable is that it was not a single formula copied everywhere.
Different regions of India developed their own distinct organic lime recipes, tuned to local materials and local climate problems.
Historic North Indian building practice mixed lime with cow dung, fenugreek, lentils, yogurt, and bael fruit pulp, a formula specifically suited to letting moisture pass through a wall rather than trap it, which matters enormously in a climate with a heavy monsoon season, since trapped moisture is exactly what causes damp, structural decay, and mold.
Coastal and southern builders leaned on kadukkai, jaggery, and neelamari for their own local strength and waterproofing needs.
It is a demonstrably real, chemically verified engineering tradition that fell out of use for one very mundane reason: the 20th century global shift to Portland cement, which was cheaper and faster to produce at industrial scale.
Somewhere in a Tamil Nadu palace archive, a recipe for plaster was written down as carefully as a recipe for food and it has taken X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy, across a real, active body of peer-reviewed research published over the past several years, to finally explain exactly why it worked. 🙏🙏

UP: “Ram is a myth. Yagna is andhvishwas. Only Christ can save you.” — Evangelists mocked Hindus. In Mominpur, 150 men rejected that claim on the ground. They performed sacred Yagna with full devotion, standing united in Sanatan Dharma. They called Ram a myth and our fire andhvishwas. We kept both alive. Ram is not a myth. Yagna is not andhvishwas. This is Sanatan.

"Tribals aren't Hindus. We worship Jesus, not Ganesh" Tribals of Guj-Mah belt had left Ganpati for Jesus under missionary influence. After years of our Dharma Jagaran efforts & Ganpati's Kripa, tribals of many districts are now celebrating Ganpati for the first time.
We're giving 1000 Ganpati Murtis for Ganpati Utsav in 1000 most conversion affected villages in missionary-hit Palghar, Narmada, Tapi, Dang, Valsad, Chikhli, Nashik. If missionaries have billions of dollars for conversion, we have blessings of Ganpati & Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to turn the tide.
Ganpati Yajna is huge. This is going to reconnect 1000 tribal villages with Sanatan again. We need Daan Data/ sponsors for Ganpati Murtis
One Murti ~ Rs 2500/ USD 51

Saurav Das Called Mohandas Pai An ‘Uncle Who Imparts Knowledge’
What was Saurav Das trying to prove by calling Mohandas Pai a “knowledge-giving uncle”??
Padma Shri, former CFO and board member of Infosys, one of the biggest names in India's tech story, but the answer was personal mockery. Outright cheap behaviour.
Criticize, ask questions... but is it right to respond to someone's achievements with cheap comments?
Saurav Das, respond to an argument with an argument, not by calling them “uncle.” This is Woke Culture and will not be tolerated here.

Every semiconductor chip on Earth is fundamentally limited by its materials: the specific alloys, dielectrics, and compounds that determine how fast, cool, and efficient a chip can be.
AI chips specifically are now generating heat exceeding 140 watts per square centimetre, and discovering a genuinely new, better material to handle that has traditionally taken years of trial & error lab work, one of the slowest, most expensive bottlenecks in the entire semiconductor industry.
And to solve exactly this problem, an unknown startup, Discovered Materials, decided to skip the decade of lab work entirely.
Founded by Advaith Sridhar and Akash Ramdas, 2 IIT Madras alumni who met as students over a decade ago and only reunited on this exact problem years later.
Ramdas with a Stanford PhD in materials science whose nanoscale interconnect work is already sitting inside Intel and TSMC's own roadmaps, Sridhar an AI engineer from Carnegie Mellon who built autonomous agents at Persona AI.
Together, they built a swarm of AI agents designed to discover and accelerate adoption of new semiconductor materials, compressing what usually takes 10+ years of lab work down toward months.
They have already released 100s of new AI-discovered materials and launched the Material Discovery Bench, the first open benchmark for testing how well AI models perform at real-world semiconductor materials discovery.
Co-founder Ramdas has said plainly: in just 3 months, they have made new thermal materials matching the performance of products the world's largest chemical companies took years to develop.
They have closed $9M seed, led by Lightspeed India Partners, with Y Combinator and Peak XV Partners participating and angel investors including Paul Graham, co-founder of Y Combinator itself, personally backing this one.
Why this matters for Bharat, 5-10 year lens:
- Every conversation in this thread about India's chip ambitions, fabs, ATMP, gases, assumes the materials going into those chips already exist.
- Discovered Materials sits one layer further upstream: using AI to find materials that do not exist yet.
- If this becomes a tool the likes of Intel, TSMC, and Nvidia actually rely on, Bharat is not just catching up on chip manufacturing, it is shaping the fundamental research layer the whole global industry draws from.
2 IIT Madras grads, building AI agents that hunt for materials nobody has discovered yet, funded by the man who literally invented the modern startup accelerator, and almost nobody outside a niche deeptech newsletter has ever heard the name Discovered Materials.
Since Maharashtra’s Freedom of Religion Act is set to come into force on August 28, pastors in areas such as Vasai-Virar, Thane and Mumbai are reportedly asking attendees to fill out forms declaring that they were not coerced or induced into attending these “prayer gatherings.”
Some have described the move as fear-driven intimidation of minorities.
But what is the truth behind these so-called “prayer gatherings”? @swati_gs explains

#India’s ₹90,000-crore submarine deal & why it matters:
-India clears Project-75I programme for 6 NG conventional submarines
-₹90,000 cr+, making it one of the largest naval acquisition programmes in India’s history
-To be built in India by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. in partnership with Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems
-Significant ToT
-Air-independent propulsion (AIP) tech will allow Subs to remain submerged for longer periods than conventional diesel-electric submarines
-Improved stealth, survivability & ability to conduct extended patrols without frequently surfacing or snorkeling
-Deals with India’s sea-denial capability across IOR & Chinese subs presence
-Big relief for #IndianNavy as conventional sub fleet has faced numerical pressure due to ageing platforms & delayed inductions
-Proposal still requires final approval from CCS & an India–Germany agreement.
-India must ensure technology transfer produces genuine Indian capability—not merely licensed assembly
-Speed of execution would be another concern
