EN: ⭕️ URGENT: UPDATE ON THE SECURITY SITUATION IN MINEMBWE, SOUTH KIVU.

Minembwe, July 5, 2026

▶️ After more than nine years of systematic attacks carried out by the Kinshasa regime and its allied forces (Burundian forces, Wazalendo militias, and the FDLR), primarily targeting the #Banyamulenge community, and more than a year of a humanitarian blockade imposed by the Burundian army, a relative calm is now returning to Minembwe, opening a new path toward stability and hope in Fizi, Mwenga and Uvira territories in South Kivu, DR Congo.

▶️ We call on the population to remain calm and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to protecting all civilians, guaranteeing the right to life, freedom of movement, and the security of every individual, without distinction.

▶️ We call upon national and international humanitarian organizations to step up their assistance in order to address the urgent needs of populations severely affected by years of violence, displacement, and the humanitarian blockade, as well as its devastating consequences for civilians.

▶️ Finally, we renew our appeal to the peace mediators and the international community to act with neutrality and impartiality, support a just and lasting peace, and facilitate the establishment of an independent investigation into the crimes committed in the Minembwe High Plateaux by FARDC units and their Burundian allied forces deployed in the area, with a view to establishing the roles and responsibilities of those involved and ensuring that the perpetrators are brought before the competent judicial process.

EN – ⭕️ ALERT: DRONE ATTACK ON CIVILIANS IN THE #BANYAMULENGE VILLAGE OF GAKENKE, MINEMBWE

This morning at 08:30, a drone strike carried out by the DRC government coalition hit the Banyamulenge village of #Gakenke, targeting innocent civilians and their livelihoods.

Among the victims is Pacy, a 14-year-old boy, son of Kadafi, who was tending cattle at the time of the attack. The strike also resulted in the immediate death of five cows, while around sixty additional heads of cattle were injured.

The MRDP-Twirwaneho strongly condemns the continuation of these drone attacks conducted by forces affiliated with the Kinshasa regime, which deliberately target civilians and their property. The killing of children and the elderly has become a daily reality in these repeated attacks against defenseless populations.

These acts, of extreme gravity, are part of a pattern of targeted extermination of a segment of the population and are aimed, in the short term, at subjecting them to famine through a humanitarian blockade imposed by the Burundian army, deployed at the invitation of this same regime.

The MRDP-Twirwaneho also denounces the continued silence of the international community in the face of repeated violations of international humanitarian law by the DRC regime and its collaborators.

We call for the opening of an independent investigation into the crimes committed by this coalition in the Hauts Plateaux of South Kivu, Eastern DRC. END.
