Someone went off the road at ‘hole in the wall,’ just south of Ouray.

They heard screams 10 mins ago, rescue in motion, ropes across the highway.

Thus, why it’s closed for 3-4 hours.

📚 Fighting for Pueblo’s Latino Families; Because I’ve Walked in Their Shoes 🇺🇸

I’m Stephen A. Varela, a proud Hispanic leader, combat veteran, and lifelong advocate for underserved communities. I was the first Latino male to serve on the Colorado State Board of Education for Congressional District 3. I’ve sat in the very classrooms that too often failed our families. I know what it’s like to grow up overlooked, and I’ve spent my life fighting to make sure our kids don’t have to.

That’s why I’m leading the effort to bring a new charter school to the West Side of Pueblo to give families and students a strong, safe, community-rooted school to replace the recently closed Chávez Huerta Preparatory Academy. Our team has asked Pueblo D60 to waive the timeline so this school can open for the 2025–26 school year and keep that building full of life and learning. The Colorado Times Recorder recently covered our push for this charter school.

I grew up in a neighborhood just like Hyde Park. I know how much it means to have a school that understands your culture, your challenges, and your worth. That’s why I’ve partnered with other Hispanic leaders like James Salazar, Dr. Miguel Elias, and George Autobee to make sure this charter reflects our history, our grit, and our future.

This is not about politics. It is about people. Pueblo’s Latino community has been ignored for too long. Not on my watch.

It is *already* practice and procedure of both the cps and court systems to strip custody from parents who will not transition their children in Colorado. Verbally & Physically Accosted for my hat.

Literally minding my own business working out and an unhinged man came up and verbally accosted me, screaming at me 4 INCHES from my face, calling me every name in the book ‘f-ing B’……then, HIT MY HAT twice!

He got an applause from folks nearby.
(I asked them if they like men hitting woman)

I stood my ground, 2 gentleman came to my rescue, he then stopped because of them (not before calling them f-ing thugs) & police were called, they are assessing the situation now.

The Rec Center Staff APOLOGIZED to him (on the stairs) & sat with him for 15 mins, meanwhile I was the one he accosted, so much for protecting women.
