The failed state of Somalia has launched an all-out assault on Somaliland, targeting us financially, militarily, diplomatically, and through misinformation.

However, the miscalculation Somalia is making is they don’t understand that this aggression will only serve to strengthen and unify Somaliland and our people even more. Our people are renowned for their resilience and ability to overcome adversity, and this situation will be no different.

However, the Somaliland government must respond decisively to this blatant hostility. Immediate actions are required to defend our sovereignty and survival.

Here are the steps Somaliland should take:

1: Declare Somalia as a state in internal conflict, influenced by multiple competing factions, and challenge its sovereignty.

2: Accuse Somalia of sponsoring terrorism through financing and supporting terrorist organizations.

3: Identify Somalia as the primary threat to Somaliland's existence.

4: Condemn the "Greater Somalia" ideology as a destabilizing ethno-nationalist movement that endangers Somaliland and the wider Horn of Africa region.

5: Suspend all negotiations and dialogue with Somalia indefinitely.

6: Label the conflict in Las Anod as a proxy war instigated by Somalia.

7: Suspend all flights from Hargeisa to Mogadishu.

8: Require Somalia-owned businesses in Somaliland to comply with local laws or shut down their operations.

9: Implement mandatory military service for all 18-year-old men in Somaliland for a period of two years to bolster national defense.

These measures will demonstrate our commitment to fighting against Somalia, a state that sponsors terrorism and breeds instability in the region. We need to be serious about this.
