It began with one man digging a grave for his wife inside Al-Shifa Hospital. Dr Munir Al-Bursh, Director General of Gaza’s Health Ministry, remembers asking him what he was doing. “I’m digging a grave for my wife,” the man answered. “Am I supposed to leave her like this?” With the hospital under Israeli occupation siege and no way to reach a cemetery, Al-Bursh called on the young men around him to help dig for all the martyrs. Doctors and health workers climbed down with shovels too, among them Dr Adnan Al-Bursh, Dr Murad Al-Qawqa, Dr Yusuf Abu Al-Rish and Dr Ashraf Al-Qudra. Together they dug a pit roughly 20 metres by 15, divided it with a partition for men and women, and laid around 80 bodies inside.

They planned to finish the burials the next morning, he says, but the Israeli occupation gave them no time. Its forces stormed Al-Shifa soon after, in the first of the sieges that would leave Gaza’s largest hospital in ruins. Dr Adnan Al-Bursh, one of the doctors who helped dig that grave, was later kidnapped by the Israeli occupation army, tortured, and killed in Israeli custody.

A 22-year-old student teacher in Illinois sent a private Snapchat message to her boyfriend and two roommates.

A student had walked up to her laptop and deleted her lesson plan mid-class. frustrated, she typed something like "should I shoot him" with a gun emoji. venting. four people. private group chat.

An hour later, police walked into her school and arrested her.

here's what happened in between.

Snapchat's AI scanned the private message. flagged it as a potential threat. automatically reported it to the FBI. the FBI forwarded it to local law enforcement. deputies arrived at the school within the hour.

she cooperated immediately. handed over her phone. when shown the message she said: "oh yes. okay. yeah. i'm realizing that was a bad joke. i did not mean it at all serious at all."

police determined she was not a threat. school officials determined she was not a threat. prosecutors reviewed and issued a disorderly conduct charge. she was released the next morning. she lost her student teaching placement.

This means:

Snapchat scans private messages.

Not just public posts or stories. private group chats between you and your closest contacts. automated AI. no human reviewed it first, got flagged and reported.

Snapchat AI → FBI → local police → school → arrest.

in under an hour.

Snapchat's privacy policy says it may share your information with law enforcement when it believes there is a risk of harm. the definition of "risk of harm" is determined by an algorithm.

you are not told when a message is flagged.
you are not told when a report is filed.
you find out when the police arrive.

the message was private.

it wasn't.

Gallant is narrating this with pride as some sort of a beautiful kumbaya story.

Yoav Gallant is named after "Operation Yoav"; a major terrorist attack which his father took part in. The operation saw the carpet bombing, ethnic cleansing & full destruction of 30 Palestinian villages, including my own family's village. All the Palestinian inhabitants were loaded on trucks at gunpoint & sent to Gaza.

Gallant was the Israeli war minister that called the very people his father ethnically cleansed to Gaza "Human Animals" & vowed to ban "all food, water, medicine, fuel & electricity" to the population his father caged in this enclave.

Gallant is wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity & war crimes.

First known US case: American charged for using a “duress” password

Samuel Tunick, an Atlanta resident, is being prosecuted for allegedly giving border agents a passcode that wiped his phone.

The feature comes from GrapheneOS, a privacy-focused Android OS. Entering the duress code triggers a full factory reset.

This is believed to be the first time federal prosecutors have brought such charges.

The incident happened in January 2025 at Atlanta airport. Agents demanded access to his phone without a warrant, saying he hadn’t yet officially entered the US. When they entered the code, the phone wiped itself.

Tunick has pleaded not guilty. His lawyers argue the seizure was unlawful and that agents were investigating his activism against “Cop City.”

The case raises big questions about digital rights at the US border.
