@ArmandDoma Why should this be surprising? Most of the problems the AIs have solved to date are essentially giant guess and check formulations. They are incredibly useful for finding unique edge cases because they can just brute force the problem. There is no new understanding happening.
@musharbash_b@AlexanderMcCoy4 Oof this is embarrassing for you and Timnit, Basel. The technical consensus has moved past her analysis and her smugness and divisiveness are worse than her analysis.
@BigMeanInternet This seems obtuse. You might need more normie interaction? “Oh you’re an engineer you must be so smart I could never do that” is an interaction I have had literally thousands of times.
@TheStalwart It depends on what you mean by "care." Humans have constant conscious and subconscious input into the computational framework we call "awareness". The AI can only "be aware" of the directed input to the model weights. Caring comes from awareness without intent imo.
@MattZeitlin Are you implying that the middle class revolutionaries are not members of the working class? There’s a glut of analysis on this, but it’s pretty obvious why class consciousness is more prevalent among middle income highly educated folks than among low income less educated people.
@benmaritz What has Seattle done to shut down job growth in your opinion? Seems pretty obvious to me that we have been slammed by tech layoffs that have nothing to do with city policy but the job market is otherwise doing well.
@BigMeanInternet You’re being obtuse bro come on. There will still be assholes and criminals under socialism. We need a way to deal with assholes and criminals other than interpersonal conflict resolution strategies.
@BigMeanInternet@lakeeater Do you buy the defense of the brenner woods position? To me it seems kinda wrong but less wrong than the people they’re arguing with.
@barbarismcrit Did we “need” access to the internet in 1990 any more than we “need” LLMs now? LLMs are going to completely change how we use computers and we shouldn’t be disillusioned that they’ll just go away.
@loganb@jtwilcox111 So in your mind the empty office buildings are a result of not enough population and public disorder? What social services would be useful and which useful ones should be replaced? These are genuine questions I’m not trolling.
@davidshor@jon_stokes I think what this misses is that the concerns of the Rats is not about job loss but about evil superintelligence or China making bio weapons or whatever. The rats didn’t foresee Claude code taking over white collar work as the concern it’s just not analytically compatible.
