@constans@JimmyFitzner@2024dion The aesthetics? I think people who live somewhere, who’ve put down roots should have a say in what happens in their neighborhood. What creates cynicism in the political process is limiting democracy and watching where you grew up turn into a place you can no longer afford.
@constans@JimmyFitzner@2024dion You bring up one (1) good point which is that public engagement should be more accessible. It should happen at times working people can participate and also prioritize languages other than English, childcare, etc. The solution is to invest in accessibility, not limit engagement.
80+ pro-Palestine protestors were arrested at Washington University in St. Louis tonight. @ZacharyLinhares and @KallieECox have all the details https://t.co/ZiubI6G8Gk
@rsgexp Jane. The moments of validation, inspiration, and activation you have initiated are beyond measure. You’ve changed people and changed what they believe is possible. Solidarity forever 💛
Don’t get it twisted. @KCTenants is the ONLY ‘no’ org that knocked doors, sent mail, ran ads, made calls, generated 1k survey responses about what the people truly want, conducted direct actions, and held two community forums in multiple languages. The work speaks for itself.
@KCTenants was clear from the start, all the way back to 2022. Paying for a billionaire’s gentrification fever dream was not inevitable, even though people across every spectrum told us to go after scraps “cause you can’t win against that kind of money.” We took on the challenge.
Missing from the conversations about eminent domain and businesses (people) that will be forcibly removed, are the many who be quietly displaced starting tomorrow as rents and property taxes are raised. The ‘invisible hand’ will begin to crush the surrounding neighborhood at once
