So after so many ppl have fought for years to get UVA to recognize Juneteenth as a system-wide holiday, and them approving it LAST year...they decide to sell Juneteenth merch in the bookstore.
Where are the profits from these sales going? Please advise: @UVA@uvahealthnews
A cautionary tale on the unchecked growth of private equity in healthcare. Must read @NewYorker article on private equity and the closure of Hahnemann Hospital.

A male #MedTwitter leader texted to ask if I thought this story hadn’t been RT’d much because it’s too shocking. In fact, it’s the opposite: sexual harassment is a routine occurrence for #WomenInMedicine. I don’t know Dr. Grothey in real life, but I have zero tolerance for this.
I don't even know what to say.
Hobbs Kessler just laid down one of the greatest performances in history by an American high schooler.
DESTROYS the high school 1500 record with a 3:34.36 at the Portland Track Festival.
Olympic standard.
Faster than the NCAA record (3:34.68).
Nikole Hannah-Jones, a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer for The New York Times Magazine, was denied a tenured position at the University of North Carolina, after the university’s board of trustees failed to approve the journalism department’s recommendation. https://t.co/wieC4yAfRc
Today in the @NewYorker, I share a story that is raw & vulnerable- mostly in hopes that it will help someone who has been through the same, & that possibly, some day, it will help my kids to understand what it all meant.

At any step along the way, did someone say “Hey, you should delete that appendix criticizing a junior researcher’s publication history”?
As much as anything, I’m reflecting on the power structures that enabled this to slip past peer and editorial review.
Congrats to Dr. Evan Rotar for receiving the 2021 STSA Resident Research Award! Many outstanding applications were received this year, making it a super competitive review process. Thanks to the STSA for making this award possible! @STS_CTsurgery@OfficialSTSA@UVA_TCV_Surgery
I often reflect on how our society decides who deserves punishment and who deserves redemption. I think about grace, and how Black people get so little. And I think about the varied manifestations of Ms. A.’s pain — how no one, me included, offered her a sanctuary.
Wow! @JAMA_current promoting this discussion🤯
How did this come from & make it through editorial boards
"Taking racism out of the conversation would help"
The term racism is not hurting us
Use it
Accept everyone holds bias
Playing on words to feel better is pouring oil on🔥
I’m confused. Why has @JAMA_current re-shared 3 articles from the past year regarding health inequities and racial injustice in the past HOUR...but they have yet to address their ridiculous podcast episode?
Ok @JAMA_current, here’s the thing:
1) Your assumption that no physician is racist is ridiculous
2) Explaining racism in a “user-friendly” format for privileged listeners is an insult. People have been abused and murdered b/c of the color of their skin. Comfort = complacency
I don’t usually do this but... @JAMA_current had a 16 minute podcast on Structural Racism so of course I took a listen out of curiosity. It was SO disappointing. I actually sat there shocked that they thought it was a good idea to air this episode. 1/n
@mahad_minhas Our hospital system has a research institute with biostaticians that are FREE. They also provide support like IRB submission and manuscript editing/formatting. Coming from med school where we had to apply for grants and/or pay $150/hr for biostat support, this has been AMAZING.
This talk by @DrQuinnCapers4 at #STS2021 was truly fantastic and I encourage @STS_CTsurgery to make it publicly available for all to view it

I’m putting this out there: if you want to collect accurate data about resident wellness, the least effective thing to do is make us answer a ~60 question “wellness” survey directly after finishing a 240 question exam. #absite
