Starlink is a technological wonder of the world, however the recent price increase ($65 -> $250) for less data (50GB -> 20GB) really hurts the general aviation community. It’s incredibly helpful to have real time weather and updates in the cockpit but at $250 per month it’s difficult to justify for many small airplane owners. I’m talking about relatively inexpensive single/twin piston engine aircraft, not PJs.
@chamath I'm not sure why anyone would buy 'productivity' software anymore. I'm replacing every piece of software at my companies with custom code and it's becoming incredibly easy.
@dhh This is hilarious... I was just talking to coworkers about how I've given Claude access to pretty much everything (k8s, proxmox, ilo, terraform, etc...), but when it got access to my Ubiquiti DMP, it took down the whole network within 5 mins... I was impressed to say the least...
@bscholl Ah, makes sense. I actually keep mine at 50% when not in-use to prevent people from accidentally stepping on them. Beautiful Cirrus, love the red ones. It's great to see your daughter has caught the aviation bug at such an early age.
Why are we punishing people for trying to prosper? Why not try to use the US tax system to promote healthier lifestyles, investment in American companies, and to lower the inequality gap? Income tax brackets mean that the more you make, the more the Federal Government will take. If we want to get rid of income tax, we will need to find a way to replace the 2.6 trillion, 54% of annual federal revenue, that the tax generates every year. Here are some ideas:
⁃Higher sales taxes and personal property taxes on luxury goods such as: supercars, yachts, private jets, expensive jewelry, designer clothing, cosmetic procedures; adding additional taxes to these items will likely have a negligible impact on the demand for these goods.
⁃Higher excise taxes on unhealthy products: tobacco, nicotine, alcohol, cannabis, candy, sugary drinks. Healthy living should be less expensive than indulging.
⁃No sales tax on grocery staples, baby supplies, basic clothing, or energy (gasoline, diesel, electricity). These taxes affect lower income families disproportionately since everyone needs these items to survive.
⁃No capital gains taxes on investments in domestic companies and increased capital gains taxes on foreign investments. This will encourage Americans to invest in American companies.
⁃Increased customs duties on imports to level the playing field with cheaper foreign labor. This will make American companies more competitive with foreign producers.
⁃Real estate taxes on properties over a certain threshold and no real estate taxes for homeowners under that threshold. The real estate tax exemption should only apply to low income housing and not to corporations owning properties under the threshold value.
These are just a few ideas that would boost Federal revenue while simultaneously helping to bridge the income gap.

@elonmusk@cstanley We need to bring accountability to the government. Federal employees hide behind CYA techniques that they focus on perfecting instead of making decisions and taking charge. This is a big reason why nothing gets done in the government.
