Although the average person doesn’t understand economics very well, he does understand that some people are getting rich without producing anything.

In today’s US, a certain class of people have gotten rich because of inflation (theft), not production.

How so? They’re wired to the government and the Fed. When fiat money is created, it goes to them first and in the largest amounts. The average guy doesn’t benefit from trillions of government spending. The “elite“ and members of the Deep State, however, benefit immediately and directly from fiat currency creation.

The broad public suspects a theft is going on. They just can’t quite figure out who the thieves are. So they blame the producers. Which suits the government perfectly; they can “step in“ and pretend to be the hero.

A society based less and less on production and more and more on the theft of pre-existing wealth inevitably becomes a Hobbesian warzone of all against all.

The rule 'don't fight the Fed' must now be expanded to 'don't fight the ESF'.

The problem with putting a hedge fund trader as Secretary at US Treasury (Bessent) and a serial manipulator and insider dealer as US Secretary of Commerce (Lutnick) is that they now have the Federal Reserve balance sheet and secret deals through the Exchange Stabilisation Fund to rig the markets they know best - futures and options.

Anyone who thinks US markets are fit-for-purpose for commodity resource allocations or price discovery is living in the past century.

Executives at oil companies will probably hold off investing in new capacity at artificially lower prices and unprecedented higher political risk.

It's worth noting that President Biden's determination to influence the 2022 midterms used dealings in physical oil from the SPR, not manipulation of oil futures markets. We are in a new era.

Longer term, as with gold and silver, oil price discovery will move out of US to markets not evidently manipulated by government for political advantage.
