I blame the dev time & budgets for modern video games & for what’s going on in the industry
During the 7th Generation we had
• 3 Mass Effect’s
• 3 Batman Arkham’s
• 3 DeadSpace’s
• 3 Bioshock’s
• 8 RockstarGames
• 2 Fallouts
• 2 Elder Scrolls
• 5 Halo Games
• 4 Gears
So Gears E-Day took 7 years to develop and had up to 316 employees and cost $500m+ allegedly.
Meanwhile GTA VI is 13 years in development and had up to 4757 employees and cost $1-1.5b allegedly.
That's some fuzzy maths right there.
And this is why I think XBOX has handled separating from these companies better than others. EA would have just closed the studio.
XBOX announced that Arkane was for sale.
Big difference. This is not a defense for XBOX. It’s just an observation that there are better ways to do things.
Offer generous severance. Offer the chance to go independent again. Let studios keep their IP. It all stinks, but EA showed us how not to do it.
This is a "trust me bro" quote if I ever heard one. First off, people are acting like Kotaku has any journalistic integrity left and running with this $500 million quote for Gears E-Day like it's gospel.
When you click on the article (and shower immediately afterwards for clicking a Kotaku link) you'll see the infamous SINGLE source is one "familiar with XBOX's business." Does this mean they work at XBOX and are involved in actual budget meetings? Or just some dude that works at the office for The Coalition as a developer or sanitation engineer? Maybe it means he works for another gaming blog, follows Xbox on social media and is therefore "familiar with their business."
Ask for your gaming journalists to do better and stop falling for click bait. Especially from activist sites like Kotaku who are more likely to virtue signal because of layoffs than actually investigate a report.
@xMBGx Incorrect.
The figure is Kotaku adding up the yearly cost of the studio between Gears 5 and Gears E Day.
When they worked on
Avowed
Halo Infinite and CE Reamke
Gears Reloaded
Matrix Demo
Alpha Point
Perfect Dark
Gears E Day
Brought mega lights to UE5 early for Epic
@Pretoriano1984 Porq no va ser GTA 13 años d desarrollo 4mil personas y dicen q costó 1 o 1,2 mil millones y Gears e day en un estudio d entre 200 y 300 personas 5 años y medio decir q costó 500 millones cuando l 90% dl gasto N un videojuego es el personal d desarrollo......
Based on that math, Naughty Dog has twice as many employees and is taking as long if not longer to release the Heretic Prophet, so it's budget must be nearing $1b+ right? Right?
They are going to have to release that on PC, XBOX and Nintendo or close down.
That's how it works right?
dire qu’il a coûté 800 millions à produire ? 🤷♂️
