Just filled up my tank. Was not cheap. Guess it’s time to re-trans the kids and let in another 20 million illegals.

@grok write a python program that would save my questions and your answers to a markdown file locally. Give me options for doing this automatically on Windows, Mac & Linux (use scheduler/cron if that is the best approach). Document the usage for each and provide an example command for each. If an API key is required, let me know that too.

[PA House Republicans 🇺🇸 @PAHouseGOP]

Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia just temporarily suspended their gas tax, saving drivers $0.33 cents per gallon.

Here in PA, Governor Shapiro won't do it and House Democrats won't even bring up our gas tax holiday legislation for a vote.

@JimDMiller "Republicans" (and everybody else with a brain) will pattern match AI risk hype to environmental hysteria because it's the SAME TOTALITARIAN SHIT!

It's panic-mongering followed by a power grab, and we are done with it. The COVID panic was the last straw.

What Is To Be Done?

I propose a simple plan:

Big AI companies should be allowed to build AI as fast and aggressively as they can – but not allowed to achieve regulatory capture, not allowed to establish a government-protect cartel that is insulated from market competition due to incorrect claims of AI risk. This will maximize the technological and societal payoff from the amazing capabilities of these companies, which are jewels of modern capitalism.

Startup AI companies should be allowed to build AI as fast and aggressively as they can. They should neither confront government-granted protection of big companies, nor should they receive government assistance. They should simply be allowed to compete. If and as startups don’t succeed, their presence in the market will also continuously motivate big companies to be their best – our economies and societies win either way.

Open source AI should be allowed to freely proliferate and compete with both big AI companies and startups. There should be no regulatory barriers to open source whatsoever. Even when open source does not beat companies, its widespread availability is a boon to students all over the world who want to learn how to build and use AI to become part of the technological future, and will ensure that AI is available to everyone who can benefit from it no matter who they are or how much money they have.

To offset the risk of bad people doing bad things with AI, governments working in partnership with the private sector should vigorously engage in each area of potential risk to use AI to maximize society’s defensive capabilities. This shouldn’t be limited to AI-enabled risks but also more general problems such as malnutrition, disease, and climate. AI can be an incredibly powerful tool for solving problems, and we should embrace it as such.

To prevent the risk of China achieving global AI dominance, we should use the full power of our private sector, our scientific establishment, and our governments in concert to drive American and Western AI to absolute global dominance, including ultimately inside China itself. We win, they lose.

And that is how we use AI to save the world.

It’s time to build.

@naval This is an old game, “regulate me before I sin again.” Create an artificial barrier to entry that precludes competition. Lock in the current leading players for decades.

The reason Trump isn’t rushing to save Saudi is that Bab el-Mandeb is not Hormuz. Hormuz is an energy choke point. Closing it directly raises gas prices in US, and Trump has a stake in that.

Bab el-Mandeb is the route for consumer goods going from China to Europe. That’s mainly their problem.

Saudi keeps saying this is an international waterway and everyone has to help. That’s true. Now let’s see if China and Europe actually show up.

For months the UAE worked with Trump, joined the Abraham Accords, helped on Hormuz, and took a position against regime in Iran.

Saudi did the opposite. They didn’t even let Trump use the American base in Saudi to hit the regime. When it came to reopening Hormuz, they stepped aside. They sent a big team to Tehran for Khamenei’s funeral. Then instead of joining the Abraham Accords, they launched the Mecca Pact.

Now they have to live with that. @realDonaldTrump doesn’t mind if MBS sees the consequences of those bad calls.

That Barak Ravid article didn’t come out of nowhere either. Trump wanted it out there to make MBS look stupid, which he is.
