One of the midterms' most visceral GOP ads features a woman attacking Ohio Senate candidate Sherrod Brown over “sex changes for minors — irreversible surgery on kids. Like me.” The woman mentions she got “hormone injections, then surgery — without my parents’ consent. I was a kid.” She uses the words “I was a kid” moments after mentioning the surgery in another ad, too.

But as @MorganTrau of News 5 Cleveland noted last week, the woman had the surgery as a 19-year-old adult, for whom no parental consent would be required.

In other forums, the woman has openly discussed that she was 19 when she had the surgery. But that's never mentioned in the ads; in both, her words create the clear and false impression she was a minor at the time.

Nidal Hasan's crimes at Fort Hood were horrific. His actions destroyed families and he deserves no sympathy. But Pete Hegseth's decision to livestream his execution is not about Mr. Hasan — it's all about all of us. This has never happened before in America, and for good reason — it's the kind of thing we got used to seeing from the Taliban or ISIS, not the U.S. military. Just as terrorist groups used on-camera executions as propaganda for their cause, this video will be used in recruitment videos by America's enemies for decades to come.

It also gives Hasan exactly what he likely wanted when he walked onto Ft. Hood and started shooting. Now, an on-camera death will make him a martyr and cause célèbre enshrined in history. This is likely the very last thing I imagine the families of the slain would want.

Someone with more sense than Pete Hegseth, who has lost all bearings of what it means to lead, should step in and stop the public airing of this event.

A lot of words here but none that indicate a single reason for the ICE agent to have pulled the trigger. If previously committing a felony justified getting shot for no other reason, we would no longer live in a democracy based on the rule of law. This statement all but admits that there was no absolutely no legitimate reason to shoot.

ICE has hired thousands of unqualified, unvetted, untrained new agents, and this is yet another example of how this administration is breaking the law.

The United States Attorney must immediately investigate this as a potential crime committed well outside the duties and responsibilities of the agent. There must be accountability.
