Two years of justice and vindication 🙏✨

One of the quiet reflections I carry is how long the road to this freedom truly was. Almost seven long years. Three fabricated cases. Coupled by countless lies, baseless accusations and uncertainty that I had to face and overcome. 

Hinarap ko ang mga gawa-gawang kaso dahil alam kong nasa panig ko ang katotohanan — na wala akong kasalanan.

In time, evidence presented in court affirmed my innocence and I was finally acquitted of the last bogus drug charge on June 24, 2024.

Hindi man naging madali ang pinagdaanan ko, pinagtibay nito ang aking pananampalataya sa Diyos at ang aking paninindigan para sa aking mga ipinaglalaban: katotohanan, hustisya at pangingibabaw ng batas.

Two years since my acquittal of all trumped-up charges, I continue to carry the same gratitude and commitment. Now, more than ever, I am reminded that many Filipinos are still fighting for their own freedom. Mga bilanggong politikal na ginipit at ipiniit gamit ang mga imbentong kaso. Mga magsasaka na ipinaglalaban at pinayayabong ang lupang kanilang sinasaka. Mga mangingisdang iginigiit ang karapatan sa karagatan at kabuhayan. Mga kababaihan at kabataang patuloy na nakararanas ng pang-aabuso at karahasan. Komunidad ng LGBTQIA+ na patuloy na humaharap sa diskriminasyon at ipinaglalaban ang pantay na karapatan, paggalang at pagkilala. Mga manggagawang naghahangad ng makatarungang sahod at makataong kondisyon sa trabaho. Mga pamilyang naghahangad ng maayos, may seguridad, at may dignidad na pabahay. At marami pang nangangailangang sektor na patuloy na nakikibaka para sa marangal na buhay at maaliwalas na kinabukasan.

Perhaps this is why this freedom feels more meaningful now. It went beyond personal closure. It meant more than my vindication, transforming it into a lifelong crusade for truth, accountability, and social justice, alongside our people's struggle towards the larger freedoms they truly deserve.

Remembering PNoy: A Selfless Leader and Public Servant

One of my regrets in life is that I was not able to talk to PNoy more after his term ended because of the circumstances beyond my control.

I was unjustly detained in 2017 based on trumped-up charges filed against me by the Duterte administration. Although he was able to visit me several times, our time to catch up was very limited. Alam ng mga nakakakilala kay PNoy na kulang na kulang ang ilang oras sa mga kwento at jokes pa lang nya.

I was still in detention when PNoy died in 2021. It was deeply saddening to have lost a great leader and dear friend. What made it even more heartbreaking was that I was not able to attend his wake to pay my final respects.

Today is even more meaningful as I also remember that exactly two years ago, I was finally cleared of all the bogus charges against me. Hindi ko man sya personal nang mapapasalamatan, pero kasama lagi sa aking dasal at pag-alala sa kanya ang lubos kong pasasalamat sa pagbibigay nya ng lakas at pagpaparamdam sa akin noon na hindi ako nag-iisa.

His exemplary leadership and enduring legacy will forever remain a source of inspiration and strength.

Maraming pwedeng masabi tungkol kay PNoy, pero maaari ko itong maibuod sa pagiging mabuti, kwela, simple, mapagmalasakit at higit sa lahat, pagiging tapat niyang lider na inalay ang sarili para magsilbi sa mga Pilipino at pahalagahan ang interes ng Pilipinas.

He stood firm in serving Filipinos with honesty and accountability, and he was unwavering in his loyalty to, and love for our country.

Pinangunahan nya ang paglilingkod hindi lang sa pagbabawal ng wangwang, hindi lang sa hindi nya pagnanakaw, kundi pati na sa pagpapanagot sa mga tiwali – gaano man ka-impluwensya o kataas ang katungkulan.

Yan din ang ipinakita nyang tapang at paninindigan sa pagtatanggol sa ating soberanya at teritoryo, kahit dambuhalang bansa man ang ating nakabangga.

Sa harap man ng Gabinete o ng kanyang mga staff, sa mga kwentuhan at mga pag-uusap na lingid sa publiko o sa media, makikita’t mararamdaman mo kung gaano katotoo ang kanyang puso sa pagsisikap na maipatupad ang positibong pagbabago, para “iwan ang Pilipinas na di hamak nasa mas magandang kalagayan kaysa kanyang dinatnan.”

Salamat, PNoy. Itutuloy namin ang laban na buong puso, buong lakas, buong sigasig, buong katapatan at buong buhay mong itinaguyod para sa ating bayan at mga kababayan.

Beijing accuses us of “hyping.” Let us be precise about what actually happened. We observed a structure inside Bajo de Masinloc. We documented it, dated it, geolocated it, and released the aerial imagery to the public. That is not hype — that is transparency. And transparency is only threatening to the party that has something to hide.

To “hype” something is to exaggerate or invent it. We did neither. The imagery speaks for itself, and we put it in front of the Filipino people, the region, and the international community precisely so that no one has to take our word for it — or Beijing’s. The fact that China’s instinct is to attack the reporting rather than explain the structure tells you everything. What is irresponsible is not a coast guard doing its job and informing the public. What is irresponsible is the unilateral placement of structures in another country’s exclusive economic zone, in open defiance of the 2016 Arbitral Award — and then calling the act of documenting it a provocation.

And there is a reason we cannot simply accept Beijing’s description of these as “normal activities.” We have heard this before. When the People’s Republic of China first occupied Mischief Reef in 1995, it assured the world that the structures it was putting up were nothing more than shelters for its fishermen. Today, Mischief Reef is a fully militarized artificial island — runway, hangars, radar, missile capabilities — sitting squarely inside the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone. The “fishermen’s shelter” was the cover story.

So when China waves away the structure at Bajo de Masinloc as “normal,” it is asking the region to forget its own record. That is precisely why these actions cannot be taken at face value.

If China genuinely wants to be believed, there is a simple way to show it: pull out. Remove the platform, halt the installation of buoys/communication towers, and respect the 2016 Arbitral Award and waters that are legally ours. Anything less only confirms the pattern — that China’s assurances at Bajo de Masinloc today are worth exactly what its word at Mischief Reef proved to be three decades ago.

The choice belongs to Beijing. It can preserve what little good faith the region and the international community still extend to it, or it can keep proving why that trust was misplaced to begin with.

Loss of life (young life at that) brought about by avoidable circumstances that the victims were exposed to by authority figures that were supposed to care and nurture them - is a tragedy that requires accountability. No it won’t bring back Divine and Rene, but we cannot allow people in power to be protected when their authority and status were wielded to put young men in precarious situations that took their lives. There’s anecdotes on record of precedent, there’s a grieving mother asking for the most basic details amid official statements saying they are ‘working closely’ with the families.

Investigate this to the fullest. Basketball is by no means more important than protecting our young people, most especially those who come from backgrounds that force them and their families to look at a roster spot, game minutes, a coaching staff’s favor and approval - as tickets to a better life.

Pay close attention to who says what, if anything at all. If you’re not enraged by the avoidable accident that took the lives of two young men, if your instinct is to protect an institution’s reputation over condemning those responosible for two boys dying, if you would rather be silent because you’re worried about relationships or your place in the industry, then you’re part of the problem.

This was avoidable. This was negligent. It’s only basketball, ffs. There are people responsible. Hold them accountable.

🚨 SEALIGHT EXCLUSIVE: Commercial satellite imagery shows the "possible structure" at #ScarboroughShoal referenced over the weekend by 🇵🇭Philippine Defense Secretary Gibo Teodoro

On 30 May while at the Shangri-La Dialogue, Secretary Teodoro said the #Philippines is reviewing “raw information” about possible new structures placed by 🇨🇳#China at Scarborough Shoal (Bajo de Masinloc), emphasizing that the information is still being verified, while warning that the Philippines remains under “severe threat” from Chinese activities in the area.

Now #SeaLight has obtained commercial satellite imagery captured on 28 May 2026 by @Satellogic via our imagery partners at @SkyfiApp, showing the southern entrance to Scarborough Shoal’s lagoon. The inset is a magnified crop of the same scene.

At the tip of the southern reef rim, the imagery reveals a small, reflective object clearly distinguishable on the reef flat near the lagoon entrance.

SeaLight has also reviewed additional commercial satellite imagery from 26 May 2026 showing an object in the same location. (Due to licensing restrictions, that imagery cannot yet be released publicly.)

Because the object is visible in imagery from at least 26–28 May 2026, the evidence suggests it is a persistent feature rather than a transient optical artifact.

Based on the resolution of the commercial imagery and the object’s appearance relative to the surrounding reef, we assess that it is (conservatively) less than 10 meters in diameter.

Its location is at or near the lagoon entrance, a sensitive chokepoint where access has previously been controlled by vessels and floating barriers.

We cannot yet determine conclusively whether this is a fixed structure, a reef‑mounted marker, a buoy‑type device, a monitoring instrument or another type of object.

SeaLight Director Ray Powell (@GordianKnotRay): "If this object is confirmed to be a fixed installation, it would raise questions about compliance with the 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, which calls for self‑restraint and avoiding actions that complicate disputes or alter the status quo on contested, uninhabited features. Moreover, history shows that small structures on previously uninhabited features are rarely endpoints for China. If so, this would mark a serious new step at an especially sensitive location for the Philippines."
