5. What does it mean that the Bitcoin mempool was empty recently? Is it not true that Bitcoin cannot scale? Why is there so little demand for block space?
@musalbas Very confused by the celebration whenever the mempool empties. Surely it's a bad sign when nobody wants to run any transactions on your ledger!
@nicksdjohnson @vorot93 @koeppelmann this reaction doesn't make sense to me, if he believes a proposal would further slow things down the best answer is to... disagree with the proposal but not attempt to block it?
@mhluongo You've got it right, decentralized micropayments are still very difficult and lightclients are too light to have anything else to offer which makes incentivization difficult.
This is not unresolvable, portal network (https://t.co/LvCo8Tw2UD) is promising, but nothing's ready yet
@phildaian@EdgarArout Every packet is a little program interpreted by the routers it passes. Both warring nodes emit a firehose of packets which bloom into a microcosm of computation, each data stream attempting to create conditions favorable for itself while restricting the propagation of the other.
@thegostep That chart is highly misleading, read the description at the bottom of that page, you want to use M2 instead. There was a jump but it wasn't nearly that large:
@SevanshawS @hjtoups @helvetesguten@Quackackjac@smolfeelshaver@willwjack@nickcammarata Even in practice nuclear wins out, how many people died in either accident? Deaths/terrawatt hour is still much more competitive: https://t.co/xUEYe8qC4I
Coal kills. Worry about coal. Stop worrying so much about nuclear.
@bramcohen A specific example is the unreliable failure detector: https://t.co/9q4tj7MVRB
In the general case... an unreliable oracle? At least one team has gone with this: https://t.co/otrxHJjqzw
@vdWijden ahh, got it, I thought the filesystem was holding you back but it sounds like you're using a single thread to call mv then wait for the result then call mv again?
@nicksdjohnson@ErigonEth I've had no problem running Erigon on sufficiently expensive Intel NUCs, system76 sells reasonably priced ones: https://t.co/Umbdco3MjY
@henridf@EdgarArout @Levotiate He likely means for a single component, probably one which is queried many times per block. There is an advantage to speed, especially for the low block-interval blocks, but if 5ms was important MEV & FlashBots would look far different than they do
@thegostep Alt:
- (1) you submit a txn commitment and pay for just the block space required to commit it
- this starts a 10 block window
- (2) you publish the matching txn and pay for gas, though you must do this within the window
It's unlikely 10 miners in a row would reject your money.
@thegostep 1. txn senders time-lock and publish their encrypted txns
2. miners sequence transactions, only knowing their gas price and maximum gas usage
3. the timelock expires some time after the block is finalized (say n+5), txns are executed, and the state root is embedded in block n+6.
@j_mcph@EdgarArout Is PGA even possible anymore? You would need to not only run the PGA but also evade all of the generalized front-runners which submit to FB.
