@dhh I run Ubuntu on my Linux desktop and it's mostly great. I was a bit miffed with the pressure tactics to pay them. They make it look like you don't get certain updates unless you pay. Pretty shady.

@hiballenergy can you buy yourselves back from Assholes-Busch? I'm so pissed that they bought you and then killed you. Not sure what I'm going to do for morning caffeine now.
@devoncestes I was getting multiple job messages a week for the last couple years but that completely dried up at the beginning of 2023. I'm not sure what a "strong tech job market" means for these journalists but there were tons of layoffs back around then.
@ZachSDaniel1@bcardarella I just heartily agreed with @bcardarella's sentiment that telling newbies to "just build it" is sad. On the other hand I don't have the energy or interest to build and maintain a library. I'm not sure exactly what the answer is but I'm hoping the community can make it better.
@davydog187 I kind of see it as a symptom of the decay of late-stage capitalism... when technology has given us endless copies for free, we cling to artificial scarcity.
@CFDevelop And it reeks of concessionary thinking. They really want butts in chairs but are struggling to get people to commit to that, so they bargain. Just do in-person if you think that actually fixes anything. Telepresence will only grow in adoption. It just makes sense.
