@headinthebox @bcherny I don't understand why people are reluctant to accept the bitter truth - things have changed, of course various specific software niches will be disrupted last - but eventually disrupted....by "AI slop". Most companies do not build Lean/Agda/Coq compilers or avionics...

Programming language doesn’t matter until you need to:
- have actual parallelism
- scale horizontally
- scale vertically
- compile 1m LoC
- incrementally compile 1m LOC
- refactor without breaking anything
- review a large diff
- validate a change
- detect and remove dead code
- maintain backwards compatibility
- get a large team working efficiently
- onboard new hires
- validate the security of a system
- invent custom abstractions to reduce duplication
- work around abstractions someone else invented
- troubleshoot production issues at 2am
- be operationally efficient
- deploy on Friday
- deploy 100 times a day
- handle time & timezones correctly
- handle currency correctly
- eliminate null pointer exceptions
- depend on libraries that are maintained & secure

I made a mistake yesterday and now I have a (good) problem.

Turns out I massively underestimated demand for Inference Engineering. Yesterday we saw:

The problem?

I'm sold out. Was on the phone with my printer in Belgium first thing this morning, more copies on the way by air freight.

@onehappyfellow @potetm Having some experience with the above languages, probably cursory in most cases - OCaml is just a beautiful language, concise, strong type system, opinionated, the closest I find as Java guy - Kotlin.

@hmemcpy @nukemberg Igal, I'm wondering, seeing your struggle with the shitty job market - I understand - I also love FP and Scala/Haskell/Ocaml are beautiful languages, but shouldn't we be pragmatic.... - why not Rust/Go/Kotlin in a FP way, perhaps...Wishing you best luck !

@jdegoes Completely agree, I'm interested in FP, and have some basic experience with Scala/Ocaml/Haskell - and you're right - the question is - as a company - why should I chose Scala, over Kotlin for example or modern Java. I personally would go with Ocaml/Haskell.
