Today the PHP project released security updates addressing two critical "PHP2Shell" vulnerabilities.
If your site is hosted on @wordpressdotcom, @WordPressVIP, @wpcloudofficial, @Pressable, @tumblr, or any Automattic infrastructure, you’re already protected.
Managing PHP yourself? Here’s what to do: https://t.co/ZHJvzYQhml
@IndianIdle Hah! I did beat him on faster return (33.3 vs ~72 hours) but @sama is the GOAT creating machine superintelligence so I bow down 🙇♂️ And support AI however I can. ☺️
I’m holding the Open Web (and Open Source) side of the fort down. It’s critical for the future of humanity.
I'm hearing folks (and agents 👀) love CLIs
The WordPress Studio team is on fire, they built one 🔥
→ alongside the app, you can now manage WP sites with an independent CLI
npm i -g wp-studio && studio
or directly
npx wp-studio site create
Demo below 👇
WordPress now runs entirely in your browser. https://t.co/DJZ2AOnZWq gives you a complete, private WordPress environment with no sign-up and no hosting plan needed. Everything stays on your device. You can use it to write, learn, experiment, or build with pre-configured apps like a personal CRM or RSS reader.

One command. Zero Docker. Full WordPress.
npx @wordpress/env start --runtime=playground
⚡️wp-env now supports WordPress Playground as an experimental runtime. Spin up a local WordPress environment in seconds, no containers required.
@karpathy > It hurts the ego
The same thing when, 28 years ago, VS6 highlighted a closing } for me.
I consider writing code to be like writing a book or an article. You find the plot you like, you explain it well to whoever helps you, and let them do it. Not your style? We can talk later.
Our very own @photomatt joined the @tbpn crew to close out #StateOfTheWord yesterday. They talked about WordPress 6.9, open source, @beeper, and how AI is changing the web. Did you miss it? Check it out now. https://t.co/hTLWOjAbba
@photomatt@WordPressVIP@wordpressdotcom It's tragicomic how a DynamoDB database in one the +300 datacenters Amazons has affected ~140 AWS services and another half of the world.
@BrtCorriere Importante?
@patrickposner_@adamzielin Hey Patrick! Yes, the cURL extension was added some months ago (https://t.co/Wly0kLeNH2). wp-cron.php has been reintroduced later (https://t.co/TxdUKU5Ldw). There is no doc for MySQL, but in Node.js, you can connect using the regular mysql_ functions or PDO.
Our CEO, @photomatt, recently joined Shaan Puri and Sam Parr on the @myfirstmilpod podcast to discuss WordPress, turning down $200M, WooCommerce vs. Shopify, and what DeepSeek means for the future.

According to @W3Techs, @WordPress just hit another all-time high for market share. #WordPress is now used by 43.67% of all websites. 🤩
We were at 42.81% this time last year. 2024 has been a great growth year, especially internationally. Anyone else excited for 2025? 45% market share perhaps?
WordPress isn’t just a software–it’s a movement. This movement, and the community that powers it, are why WordPress now powers over 40% of the web.
That’s why Automattic and @photomatt are taking action to protect it from misuse by those who profit without giving back.
Earlier this week, private-equity firm @SilverLake_news and @WPEngine filed yet another document with the court, filled with cherry-picked, out-of-context statements and unfounded allegations–all in an attempt to distract from the reality of their factually and legally unsupported narrative.
In 2025, @Automattic, a founding member of The PHP Foundation, is increasing its contribution to $250,000—a 2.5x increase!
We are very grateful for their ongoing support and firm commitment to the PHP community.
Thank you, @Automattic and @WordPress!
Since Sept 17th, 2024, when the whole @wpengine thing started, there have been 28,738,111 downloads of WordPress Core (this includes all versions and all languages), 296,991,952 downloads of plugins, and 7,338,623 downloads of themes.
But yes, tell us WordPress is in trouble. 😂
At the beginning of the year, during a business review I was presenting to @photomatt and our CFO, I told Matt that my wife was pregnant and I’d be taking paternity leave later in the year. Matt pumped his first in the air with joy.
A few months later, we found out that our baby had spina bifida. That my wife and baby required surgery before our baby was even born. Further, we found out that we were expected to relocate to Houston 2 months before our baby’s due date, something that comes with many logistic and financial considerations.
At the time, Matt reached out for a quick chat. He then offered for me to stay at his house, which I found incredibly kind.
