In December 2023, I wrote that Israel’s definition of Hamas “affiliation” was so broad that you could be considered affiliated simply for buying a shawarma from a restaurant owned by a Hamas member.
I was criticized for making a claim I couldn’t substantiate. I had no report to cite. My analysis was grounded in years of observing and studying Israel’s treatment of Palestinians, and in my own family’s experience of that oppression.
Nearly three years later, accounts of the documentary Naza describe an Israeli intelligence official explaining how an AI targeting system could identify a baker as a Hamas operative simply because Hamas members bought bread from his bakery, potentially leading to an attack on his home and family.
The resemblance is staggering. I was immediately reminded of my post. I even wondered if I’d succumbed to the criticism and deleted it. I’m glad I didn’t.
What’s frustrating is how often observations about despicable Israeli practices are dismissed until they’re corroborated by Israeli insiders or investigative journalists. There’s an important difference between an analysis that hasn’t yet been substantiated and one that has no reasonable basis.
I wasn’t making a random guess in 2023. I was identifying a pattern. And the evidence that has emerged since then has given that analysis substantial support.
Great piece by @NoLore on how the NDP’s opaque vetting system prioritizes control over renewal. I experienced an arbitrary, discretionary process that clearly rewards caution while punishing courage. Rather than welcoming independent, bold candidates and ideas, it reinforces conformity & produces a status quo party too scared to challenge power

Every U.S. president from 1901–present has been involved in Latin American regime change. The US remains an imperialist presence in Latin America.
Israel’s crimes committed long before October 7.
the ethnic cleansing of Lifta.
Lifta today is not just ruins; it is a living memory and one of the clearest testimonies to the Nakba and the right of return.
Today marks 10 years since the release of the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, an invaluable record of the crimes and injustices committed through the residential school system.
Yet a decade after these painful truths were laid bare before Canada’s leaders, governments continue perpetuating colonial harms by ignoring attempts by a growing number of hateful, bad faith actors—including even some elected representatives—to deny the genocide and incite hate against residential school survivors, their families, and communities. This denialism is unconscionable, and the truth must be upheld.
On the 10th anniversary of the TRC Final Report, I wish to thank all survivors for sharing their stories with the hopes of moving the country on a path to reconciliation and justice. Today and every day we must reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation and take all necessary steps to fully implementing all 94 Calls to Action without delay.
Palestinians in Gaza are literally left ALONE, FREEZING and STARVING in the winter storm.
I keep asking how we became such monsters, uncapable of stopping this nightmare.
For them, for us, for whatever remains of the people in whose name this genocide is being committed.
"The decision to broadcast an Arabic version on Oct. 7 by Earl Haig Secondary School was an unmistakable act of defiance."

Canada also still allows Israel to vet / approve each and every applicant from Palestine.
Imagine asking Hitler which Jews were ‘safe enough’ to accept as refugees?
When I tell you that Zionism is a disease, this is what I mean. Israel must be dismantled. Saying this is not hate. It is not revenge. It is a call to remedy and healing.
When the story of the Israeli genocide of Palestinians is told, it will tell the story of how it cut electricity, food and water from the “human animals” and how Israelis mocked the starving thirsty children with videos of running water taps and lit lightbulbs 🧵
The Ontario Government touts record spending in education. In fact, the increases fail to keep up with inflation
