Deeply disturbed by the news coming from across the LoC. The killing of more than a dozen protesting civilians and police personnel is extremely sad. The Government there should know better than to use force to handle public grievance and demands in this manner.
When people take to the streets to express their concerns, it is a signal that they seek to be heard. It is the responsibility of those in authority to listen, engage and peacefully resolve the matter, rather than allow it to escalate into violence, arbitrary arrests and loss of life.
Hope and pray that better sense prevails and the matter is handled with maturity while addressing the concerns of the people.

جو لوگ کبھی آزاد کشمیر گئے نہیں وہ کشمیریوں کے بارے میں باتیں کررہے ہیں ۔ کشمیری قوم نے پاکستان کے یوم آزادی 14 اگست 1947 سے بھی پہلے 19جولائی کو پاکستان کا ساتھ دینے کا اعلان کیا تھا۔ کشمیری محب وطن ہیں ان کو غداری کے سرٹیفیکیٹ دینا بند کریں ان کو دھشتگرد قراردینے سے مسئلہ حل نہیں ہوگا ۔ بہتر یہی ہے کہ ان کے بنیادی مطالبات پر وعدوں کے مطابق مکمل عمل کیا جائے ۔ اگر آپ ایسا نہیں کرتے تو کل کلاں یہ غصہ نفرت میں بدلے گا اور اسکا فائدہ تیسرا ملک اٹھا لے گا۔ انہیں گلے لگائیں انہیں مت دھکیلیں ۔ یہ دھشتگرد نہیں پاکستانیوں کے بھائی ہیں انہیں دشمن مت بنائیں.

اسلام آباد: ہیومن رائٹس کونسل آف پاکستان نے آزاد کشمیر میں تیزی سے بگڑتی ہوئی حالیہ صورتحال اور بڑھتی ہوئی کشیدگی پر شدید تشویش کا اظہار کیا ہے۔ کونسل نے دونوں فریقین حکومت اور مظاہرین پر زور دیا ہے کہ وہ وسیع تر عوامی مفاد کو مقدم رکھتے ہوئے فوری طور پر بامقصد اور بامعنی مذاکرات کا آغاز کریں، کیونکہ پائیدار امن کا راستہ صرف اور صرف بات چیت سے ہی ممکن ہے۔

HRCP is deeply concerned by the AJK government's decision to proscribe the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) under anti-terrorism legislation ahead of its planned protest on 9 June. The use of counterterrorism laws against a group that has been mobilising around political and socioeconomic demands, and had called for a public protest, raises serious concerns about the shrinking space for peaceful assembly and dissent in this region.

At a time when elections are approaching in July, it is particularly important that fundamental freedoms, including the rights to expression, association and peaceful assembly, are fully protected.

Pakistan may be accidentally building one of the world’s first decentralised #solar economies. The craziest part? Real scale barely shows in official stats. Imported 51.5 GW solar panels by late 2025—nearly = entire grid. Yet registered net-metered rooftop solar just 5.3–6.8 GW.

What makes this story so extraordinary is the speed.

In only a few years, Pakistan appears to have gone from a relatively minor solar market to potentially sourcing around a quarter of its electricity from solar once distributed generation is included.

👉 ~18 GW solar imports in 2025
👉 ~51.5 GW cumulative imports by late 2025
👉 Rooftop solar: ~1.3 GW → 4.1 GW in 2024
👉 ~5.3–6.8 GW registered rooftop solar in 2025
👉 24+ GW estimated behind-the-meter/off-grid
👉 Solar potentially ~25% of actual electricity use

The massive gap between imported panels and officially registered systems strongly suggests tens of gigawatts are now operating quietly on homes, farms, factories and businesses across the country.

This increasingly looks less like a normal energy transition and more like large-scale consumer-led grid defection.

And economics is driving nearly all of it.

Electricity tariffs surged. Diesel prices climbed. Blackouts remained common. Meanwhile ultra-cheap Chinese solar panels and falling battery prices made self-generation economically irresistible.
So millions effectively made the same calculation:

Generate your own power, or remain trapped inside an expensive and unstable system.

Once solar becomes cheaper than the grid itself, adoption can move faster than governments, utilities and even official statistics can keep up with.

This isn’t gradual transition by any stretch. It may ultimately become a blueprint for how energy-poor nations break free from legacy old-world energy systems dominated by fossil fuels and increasingly expensive centralised power.

It’s decentralisation at escape velocity.

This is #Bettrification.
