Southern Lebanon is once again under heavy attack.

Families are trying to flee as Israel increases evacuation orders for residents across the south to leave their homes.

We continue to provide support to people living with the suffering and trauma of repeated displacement.

But what they really need is peace.

@BeirutCalling I imagine the so called pilot zones will be in areas that IDF havent occupied - like Nabatieh, which would make this proposal dead on arrival. trust building exercise would in fact be Israeli withdrawal, LAF control and return of the displaced, I don’t think this would happen.

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health places this video before the international community, the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross, all relevant international institutions, and local and international media. It serves as a documented condemnation of the systematic Israeli attacks targeting hospitals, emergency medical teams, and health centers in Lebanon.

The systematic targeting of healthcare workers and facilities is a grave violation of International Humanitarian Law. We place this evidence before the world: Silence is complicity. Protect Lebanon’s healers.

Most people I know in AI think the median person is screwed, and they have no idea what to do about it.

I spent the last 3 months talking to dozens of researchers, economists, and policy experts about AI's impact on work; including reps from every frontier lab and several Congressional offices. Unfortunately, I was not reassured.

The AI industry is raising the alarm, but can't change course. These companies' core business model relies on the disruption they are warning about: their faith in full automation only makes them go faster.

Policymakers are waking up, but still paralyzed by data and debates. Econ wonks disagree on plenty, but even the limited scenario looks like a "painful transition" that will disempower millions of workers.

But an "underclass" is not inevitable, but rather a societal choice — and one we can and should stop. Instead of waiting for impact, we should start planning now to support workers through AI disruption. Whether policymakers can assuage concerns about economic security may determine if we get to reap AI's gains at all.

More tragedy in southern Lebanon today, with nine paramedics killed in five attacks on health care, taking the number of health personnel killed this month to 51. Seven medics were wounded in the strikes.

March has been the second most deadly month for health workers in Lebanon since @WHO started monitoring attacks on health care in the country in October 2023.

More than 120 health workers have also been reportedly wounded since the escalation began in Lebanon on 2 March, overwhelmingly in the country’s south.

In today's incidents, teams of medics working in five Lebanese villages were struck while on duty in the field.

In Zoutar al-Sharqiya, five health workers were killed in a strike and two were injured, one critically. Two more health workers were killed and three wounded in Kfar Tibnit; one paramedic died in an attack at a health facility in Ghandouriyeh, while another was killed in a strike in Jezzine. Two were wounded in an attack on Kfar Dajjal.

The repeated attacks on health care are severely disrupting the delivery of services in southern Lebanon. Four hospitals and 51 primary health care centres are now closed, significantly limiting access to essential care at a time when it is most needed. Several other health facilities have sustained partial damage and are operating at reduced capacity.

Health workers are protected under international humanitarian law and should never be targeted.

The only way to end these tragedies is to end attacks on health care, NOW!

The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention and Human Security is utterly horrified by the failure of the so-called “ceasefire” in Gaza, the continued wanton killing of Palestinians by Israel in Gaza and the Occupied Territories, the plans to sell off Palestinian land to developers without any Palestinian control or input, and the establishment of a so-called “Board of Peace” that functions mainly to conceal genocide.

In fact, Trump’s Peace Plan fits right into Lemkin’s genocide framework as laid out in his 1944 study, Axis Rule. It sets out a “coordinated plan” that is administrative, economic, territorial, and demographic in nature, thereby aiming to dismantle the manifold foundations of Palestinian national existence. As Lemkin has made crystal clear in his analysis, territory is more than just physical space. It forms the material basis of national existence. Trump’s framing of Gaza as a real estate opportunity thus lays bare the settler-colonial logic of the Peace Plan, in which ancestral land and natural resources are reduced to an economic opportunity for exploitation.

When we understand that genocide is not only achieved by mass killings, but also through institutional restructuring imposed by an external power, the genocidal character of the Board of Peace becomes apparent.

The situation in Palestine is truly dystopian and must not be allowed to continue.
