I had some of the best memories playing this as a kid and as an adult. Hands down the best MMO. Was so hooked I didnt leave my computer when an earthquake hit while I was bossing trying to get a 1/200 drop

i was a huge old school runescape gamer as a kid and during senior year of college @zfengster and I had tons of free time to relive a bit of nostalgia:

> wanted to challenge ourselves to make a f2p account and unlock all paid content without spending a dime
> found out the easiest way to actually make starting cash was finessing blackjack bots in the grand exchange (bots that claimed to 'double your money')
> reverse engineered the probabilities of winning hands depending which was a function of bet sizing, bot author, and betting history
> used that money as a starting base to arbitrage on the Grand Exchange (GE), eventually worked with others on a mm bot that worked by intercepting network requests since there was no official api lol
> used this money to buy all materials to train up core skills, wrote bots that circumvented jagex detection
> realized that the 'venezuelan exchange' was still alive and well (osrs gp/venezuelan bolivar is a legit market)
> started a farm to do copy all of our exact strategies so we could expand our wealth (both in and off game)
> finally started playing the game only after we had accrued all the fun items
> went immediately into high risk pvp areas to hypergamble to make more money
> rinse and repeat

some other fun memories from this era are when we were trying to escape high level guilds after getting extremely rare drops, Z missing final project deadlines from bossing all night, and then still getting A's after coming up with an excuse (thanks @Stanford 🫶🏼), and of course getting scammed and dying in the wilderness as a kid

honestly, some of the most fun in my life; just simpler times when there were very little worries in life. every couple years, i get sentimental and an itch to hop back on, but some books are better off closed🫡

finally on the way back home after spending 2 months abroad in asia. This trip has allowed me to reflect on some findings as to how @TryNectarAI will be evolving globally over the next year.

Consumer AI is underserved in East/SEA countries.
Upon further thought, this makes a lot of sense. A large bulk of AI development comes primarily from the West with the exception of China. However, given various geopolitical climates it can be exceptionally difficult to penetrate into these different countries. If consumer AI is popular, say in the form of utility LLMs, they often run on smaller parameter models but highly trained on localized text.

Utility has largely been a focus for these models, a la Green Revolution, with the primary use case as an accelerant for national GDP and efficiency as the rest of the world advances. Creative use cases (those geared primarily for entertainment) have not taken off as rabidly in these countries as they have in the states. This presents a large expansion opportunity for Nectar, as I and the team firmly believe that eventually a regression to the mean having entertainment as a primary use case of AI will happen. This also follows from fundamental principles -- first satisfy needs, then desires.

Localization is imperative.
Having spent time in Japan and Korea where English penetration is particularly low compared to surrounding regions, it's all the more important to establish brand awareness catered to these local audiences. While existing localized versions exist (check out https://t.co/FZhwOCUyX5), we want to double down on breaking into these regions as priorities for expansion this coming year.

Innovation is in the niches.
Knowledge expands fractally, and from a distance its edges look smooth, but once you learn enough to get close to one, they turn out to be full of gaps. For different cultures, there's already existing habits that people are used to. There's slightly different consumer apps, slightly different mannerisms, and these small differences compound into cultures that paint it as drastically different from the west (for one, the dominance of anime). This means that within each country, there are plenty of different possibilities for change, and that Nectar will never be a one size fits all solution, and is quite interesting to think about how growth looks like for us 5 years down the line as both a protocol and a company!
