@rnoyfb@wwwojtekk Have to keep in mind that vaccine mandates were put in place pre-delta. Now, with many administrators under the impression that the vaccine provides dubious protection against infection, the plan they had in mind before might not apply.
@orinmoore@riesespuffs @samdman95 I’m not making fun of anyone’s health problems. I sincerely hope that they improve. However, I do think it’s irresponsible to imply there’s some sort of relationship between those health issues and the vaccine, especially given the culture of misinfo around vaccines already.
@orinmoore @samdman95 It’s strange, ever since I got vaccinated my mile times have improved enormously. Could it have been because I started running every week? No, no it’s because of the vaccine. The vaccine can explain everything. Anecdotes are the best evidence there is.
@JHWeissmann Which should be expected from unions, right? Police unions fall into the same trap where they are forced to justify any sort of police misconduct, no matter how severe or indefensible it is.
@evanbear20 @theonlyshortboy @Noahpinion It’s a neat rhetorical device to shift the focus from total dollars spent—the only finance metric that matters for campaigning—to where the money is from. The source of the money is relevant in that it’s about the candidates values. It has nothing to do with actual campaigning.
@IAmKrishanPatel @xenocryptsite Basically guaranteed that will be the stereotype that defines our generation. Will be our version of the baby boomer who lectures young people about money after buying a home at 23 and paying their way through college for a nickel.
@jdcmedlock @IAmKrishanPatel If we use record low interest rates to issue debt for a social wealth fund, and the fund outperforms the interest rate on the debt, is that just pure profit? Surely not. Can you not take money out of the fund to pay off debt?
@agraybee Is there a relevant difference between being good at intra-party politics (the kind needed to become VP) and being good at winning tough elections? There’s plenty of (successful) politicians who’s strengths lie more in working the caucus than working electoral miracles.
@samdman95 @mattyglesias Sinema’s original win was pretty impressive (the last Dem senator from AZ was in the 90s!), but it’s fairly unarguable that Kelly’s win was even more impressive. The real test for Kelly will be in 2022. If he pulls that off there’s no question he’s a more skilled pol than Sinema.
@papavaritis@jbarro Agreed. Cuomo is in such a tight spot that he won’t risk annoying one of the few interest groups (unions) who wholeheartedly supported him throughout the scandals.
@pepperedchef@DavidOAtkins@mattyglesias Saying Biden would be right-wing in the rest of the world only reveals how little you know about the rest of the world. Wouldn’t exactly say Biden would be on the right in Poland or Hungary, not to mention straight-up monarchies like Saudi Arabia.
@roderickgraham Of course, if there are multiple employees, then it still explains why some business owners sleep above their shops. Your original point still stands.
@roderickgraham Surely the owner of the business is including their own salary in the payroll? And the $8000 in net profit is just from the business as a whole? Full disclosure I have no accounting background at all.
