Somaliland joining with Somalia would be like mixing humus with sheep dung: the combination will slightly improve the sheep dung, but the humus will be totally ruined.
@landerfirst00@deltastorm2@CAAA_SL You want a new airport in Burao because you want "glory." I want an expensive Porsche because I think it would be "cool." Neither are the best use of limited funds at the moment. When there is a clear customer base for flights to Burao then the airport there will be upgraded.
This is the first post I ever pinned to my profile.
Times have changed since then. Today, Somaliland is a recognised state.
Lets call on Pres. @Abdirahmanirro to build a suitable, dignified national memorial for the Isaaq Genocide.
May our friend Patrick Mazimhaka rest in peace.
Yes the AUβs 2005 fact-finding mission report remains one of the strongest testaments that Somaliland is not a case of secession. It effectively dismantles the arguments used against Somalilandβs recognition as an independent state, including claims that it would alter colonial borders or violate the AUβs founding principles. Somaliland simply restored the sovereignty it briefly held within the borders inherited at independence.
@ElephantsMusth Nope! The current regime in Somalia was formed on August 20, 2012 and Somaliland, which had already reclaimed its sovereignty in 1991, did not join the Federal Government of Somalia. FGS still has its same territory as in 2012.
@LordAshcroft@JakeWSimons@Mr_Andrew_Fox@The_Brink_ British Somalilanders fought in both world wars alongside the allied forces. In France, Belgium, in Normandy, in the battle of the Somme, in the East Africa campaign, in Bhurma, amongst other places. Its a shames the UK government abandoned Somaliland in its hour of need.
Somaliland | Togdheer Burao π
THIS BRINGS PURE JOY TO EVERY SOMALILANDER ACROSS THE ENTIRE COUNTRY!
The Somaliland flag has been PROUDLY raised once again in the exact same spot since 1991!
What an absolutely BREATHTAKING, historic moment!
Stop everything!, and enjoy this incredible sight!! π₯³π
@SUPERSOMALI252 Money will be better spent on a new road from Hargeisa to Burao via Odweyne. Will cut the journey time by nearly half. Good for the economy. We need one main intl airport with good national road connections. SL is small. Ceerigaabo needs a small airport for domestic flights.
Salaam everyone,
This Ramadan, @MySlpa teamed up with the Ainabo International Hospital Committee to raise funds for a hospital that will provide much-needed care to Ainabo and the surrounding communities, where distance is a major barrier to healthcare.
By bringing healthcare closer to home, we can save lives and improve health outcomes. Your support can make a real difference.

@Mudanemaxamed Somaliland needs to pass a law that would make it illegal for any future government to borrow from the international community. Otherwise, after recognition the country will fall prey to lenders who don't have our best interest at heart.
I remember when I was looking at the archives of the nineties and now, and how the situation has changed. Alhamdulillah, work does not stop here. Developing schools. Increasing the education budget.

@InaHassan3@PharoFoundation@SOSCVSomaliland The gender balances in both are very close to equal: in the second photo (where every student can be counted) there are 28 boys and 33 girls. Girls do not "vastly outnumber" boys. Admit that you just don't want girls to be educated.
I am starting to move over to Bluesky. I will be phasing out my participation here as that platform grows.
Twitter has clearly gotten worse, and now I see a credible alternative.
@westtoeastt@HeadBritOffice@ctoepell So Somalilanders contributed Β£236,189.38 in today's money to the safety of Somaliland and the world in 1942 as well as many brave souls in the fight against the axes yet no one mentions our brave soldiers and people's contribution and no one thinks we deserve a UN seat todayπ€
@JDevermont@hofrench@Fromagehomme@kopalo Somaliland in 2003. A non-Issaq candidate from a minority tribe wins by only 80 votes (total votes were 500,000), and all parties peacefully accept results.
It is a great joy for me to hear the news that the Ministry of Education of Somaliland has officially recognized the Somaliland Teachersβ Association (SOLTA). This is a significant achievement for all teachers in Somaliland, who have been denied representation for a long time due to legal obstacles.
In 2017, a group of teachers and I, being the youngest in terms of experience and age, put in a great effort to gain legal recognition for this association. One of the biggest challenges we faced initially was opposition from the government.
This is a historic victory achieved by Minister Dr. Ahmed Buuhane, and it places a strong responsibility on the teachers to fulfill their role in advancing education. @cabdirashed@SDGsInSchools@GPforEducation
