I have had the opportunity to hand over MakRun kits to a number of Makerere University alumni and former student leaders, including the 85th Guild President @Katereggakj, 86th Guild President @ivanssempijja2, 89th Guild President & MP Mukono South @MaserukaRobert, 91st Guild President @ssentamu_cj, 88th Guild Vice President @margaretnattabi,88th Prime Minister @Walterjoel256 ,82nd Information Minister & LC5 Chairperson Lwengo District @KizitoAbasi1, 84th Information Minister and LC3 Councillor Muluka 3 @katoInfom, 80th Minister for Campus Affairs & Snr International Officer @MathiasSsemanda, 80th GRC School of Social Sciences @KatumbaSalim, 88th Minister of Security @_mujurizi, @Sabiiti_ , ahead of the 2026 MakRun, slated for this Sunday, 27 September.

It was particularly meaningful to see former student leaders who are now astute national leader like Honcome together once again around a cause that speaks to the wider Makerere community.

This year’s MakRun is running for a purpose beyond the race itself: to support students living with disabilities with assistive equipment that enables them to learn, participate and thrive at the University.

For me, moments like these are a reminder that the relationship between Makerere and its alumni does not end at graduation. It evolves into opportunities to reconnect, contribute, support current students and continue building the institution we once called home.

As someone working within the University’s stakeholder engagement space, it is encouraging to see alumni engagement translate into visible participation and support for the student experience.

We run. We reconnect. We give back.

Today I add another year to my life,and I’ve been thinking a lot about this thing called life.

I’m grateful for life. Truly. But if I’m being completely honest, this year has been one of the most confusing seasons I’ve experienced.

It was supposed to be one of the best years of my life. I finally got my Architecture degree after years of struggling to get there. I thought graduation would bring a certain kind of peace that feeling of finally having figured something out.

But somehow, after graduation, life became even more uncertain.

I’ve struggled to find work. I’ve questioned whether I’m really meant to be an architect. I’ve questioned my purpose. And there have been moments when something as basic as affording a meal became a real problem.

It’s humbling.

You grow up imagining that by a certain point in life, you’ll have everything figured out :a good job, money, a home, stability, and a clear direction.

But life doesn’t always follow the timeline we create in our heads.

Right now, I may not have much to show except life itself, a degree, some skills, a few dreams that refuse to die, and the lessons this difficult season has taught me.

And maybe that’s okay.

Maybe I don't need to have everything figured out yet.

Maybe I just need to keep moving.

I’m learning that sometimes success isn't about how much you have. Sometimes it's simply having the courage to wake up and try again when life has given you every reason to stay down.

So I’m choosing to be grateful.

Alhamdulillah for life.
Alhamdulillah for the degree.
Alhamdulillah for the skills.
Alhamdulillah for the people who have carried me through difficult moments.
And Alhamdulillah even for the difficult days, because they are teaching me things comfort never could.

I don't know exactly what the future will bring.

But I pray it brings stability, purpose, meaningful work, good health, genuine friendships, laughter, and the courage to keep becoming the person I’m meant to be.
