Great news! Thanks to the hard work of advocates, South Dakota lawmakers rejected an attempt to repeal Medicaid expansion. Will you help us thank our lawmakers who voted to protect both our health care and our vote? https://t.co/eGzLoUfF03

Last Tuesday, SD volunteers met with @LeaderJohnThune, @SenatorRounds, & @RepDustyJohnson to discuss cancer policy priorities impacting thousands at home.
Thanks to our delegation for engaging directly with constituents on these lifesaving issues.

“If some of their employees can’t access insurance thru Medicaid & need to switch they’re going to be looking to go to bigger companies or maybe moving out of state to some other place that has more state-subsidized healthcare.”

We don’t yet know all of the impacts of the “Big, Beautiful Bill” but we do know the threats to access for health coverage in places like South Dakota. Yesterday I joined @keloland to talk more about it:
Medicaid provides health coverage for:
-> 1 in 10 adults w/a history of cancer
-> 1 in 3 children diagnosed w/cancer
-> 2 in 5 of all U.S. births
-> 2 in 5 children
-> 1 in 6 non-elderly adults
Watch SD @ACSCAN Gov Rel Dir @BenjaminWHanson discuss Medicaid cuts on @keloland here:
1 in 10 American adults with a history of cancer rely on Medicaid for their health coverage. I joined @keloland to talk about how this population will be impacted by the cuts to the program that were passed by Congress yesterday:
@dakotanews_now reported, “On Monday, some hospitals in the state announced they could no longer take appointments for early detection breast cancer screenings.” HHS had waited to notify that funding would be renewed for breast & cervical cancer screenings.
@BenjaminWHanson
She notes, “South Dakota would be hit especially hard, as we are home to large rural, veteran and disabled populations and other vulnerable patients who lean on this important program especially heavily…”
Former SD State Senator Jean Hunhoff recently shared her concerns in a guest column, highlighting the serious impact that proposed federal Medicaid cuts could have on residents.
