@RealQueenBee__@HenshawKate I celebrate and rejoice with you on the occasion of your birthday DISTINGUISHED Kate. Happy birthday to you, and best wishes always ❤️
Two phones on the same Wi-Fi network can have completely different internet speeds.
Not because of the router.
Not because of the internet provider.
However, due to the Wi-Fi technology inside the phone.
Here’s what most people don’t know. 🧵
Your phone might be the reason your internet feels slow.
Yes, really.
You and someone else can be connected to the same Wi-Fi network, even if you're sitting in the same room and using the same router.
Yet their phone loads videos instantly while yours keeps buffering.
Most people blame the internet provider.
But sometimes, the real difference is the device in your hand.
Let me explain. 👇
Your phone doesn’t just “connect to Wi-Fi.”
It connects using something called wireless bands, and these bands determine how fast or how far your internet signal travels.
Think of Wi-Fi bands like lanes on a highway.
Some lanes are fast but short.
Some lanes are slower but go much farther.
The three main Wi-Fi bands today are:
2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz.
Each behaves very differently.
First is the 2.4 GHz band.
This is the oldest and most widely used Wi-Fi band.
Advantages:
• Longest range
• Better at passing through walls
• Works with older devices
But it also has problems.
This band is very crowded.
Many devices use it:
• smart home devices
• Bluetooth gadgets
• TVs
• baby monitors
• even microwaves, yes, you read that right.
So, while it can technically reach 600 Mbps, real-world speeds are often much lower because so many devices compete for it.
Now let’s look at the 5 GHz band.
This band is much faster.
Advantages:
• Higher speeds
• Less interference
• Better for streaming and gaming
With modern routers, it can deliver 1 Gbps or more.
But there’s a trade-off.
The signal doesn’t travel as far and doesn’t penetrate walls as well as 2.4 GHz.
So it works best when you’re closer to the router.
Then there’s the newest band: 6 GHz.
This is used by Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 devices.
It’s the fastest and cleanest Wi-Fi band available today.
Advantages:
• multi-gigabit speeds
• extremely low latency
• very little congestion
But only newer phones, laptops, and routers support it.
Older devices won’t even see this band.
Now here’s the interesting part.
Imagine two people connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Person A has a newer phone that supports 5 GHz or even 6 GHz.
Person B has an older phone that only supports 2.4 GHz.
What happens?
Person A is driving in the fast lane.
Person B is stuck on the slow lane.
Same Wi-Fi.
Completely different experience.
This is why upgrading your internet plan doesn’t always make things faster.
If your device doesn’t support the faster wireless bands, it may never reach those speeds.
Your router and your device must both support the same technology to get the best performance.
If you’re curious, you can actually check which Wi-Fi band your phone is using.
On Android:
Go to
Settings → Wi-Fi → Tap the connected network.
Some phones will show the frequency or band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).
On iPhone:
iOS doesn’t show the band directly, but you can check indirectly.
Go to
Settings → Wi-Fi → Tap the (i) icon next to the network.
Many routers separate their networks like:
HomeWiFi
HomeWiFi-5G
The 5G network usually means the 5 GHz band, which is faster.
So the next time your internet feels slow, don’t only blame your ISP.
Sometimes, the real bottleneck is the device you’re using to connect.
In today’s digital world, not all phones speak Wi-Fi the same way.
And sometimes…
Your phone is the slowest device on the network.
I overheard a father speaking to his son on the phone in a bus yesterday. What he said almost made me cry.
The son sounded frustrated about how hard life has been since finishing NYSC.
Then the father said:
“Shola, come back home. I didn’t send you out of my house, you chose to stay out. Come back home and let’s replan.
You’re just 22.”
The way he said it was so calm and reassuring.
Hearing those words from a father felt heavenly.
@ruffydfire May God bless you for all you do for humanity 🙏 I’m reaching out with a humble ask: I need *₦300,000* to clear my child’s school fees deadline’s looming & I’m stuck right now. It’s much to ask. If you can lend a hand.
Thanks for considering. You’re a lifesaver.
@ruffydfire Rufai the love I have for you is 💯, you're a very good young man that wants the best for Nigeria. God will continue to protect you from all these evil leaders.
