On Tuesday the 14th of November, we have the Met. Offices own @hwlean discussing the ins and outs of the Wessex Convection Experiment (WesCon)! Come along to the University of Reading at 7pm or join online.

Great satellite image here showing the center of #StormAgnes approaching the Southwest. Notice the break in clouds with some reports of blue skies in Kerry, that is expected but strong winds and more rain will move in as storm moves up.
The September heatwave is unprecedented. The Central England daily mean-temperature series begins in 1772.
Today also marks the 7th day in a row of maximum temperatures hit >30°C in the UK. This has also never been recorded in September.
It was great to go on one of the #WesCon research flights to see cloud measurments being collected, see the data in real time, and of course experience the turbulence in the cumulus clouds! Flying through 13.5m/s updrafts and 9.5m/s downdrafts is definitely something to remember
That's a wrap! Today marks the end of our #WesCon summer of science with @MetOffice_Sci 👏
The project saw drones, aircraft, radar, radiosondes, lidar, weather stations, radiometers, wind profilers, much more kit, and many people all working together to study summer storms.
A friend is currently in Pescheiria on Lake Garda in Italy and just recorded these clips of an intense thunderstorm with huge hail and crazy amount of lightning in second part with temperatures of 30c!
This is the massive hail flow generated by the violent thunderstorms in the Milan area this morning (July 21, 2023). These are the streets of Seregno: an authentic ice river

I had a great time at the @RMetS student and early careers conference over the last 2 days! Learned a lot about new and interesting research, and I also got the opportunity to present some of our findings on how to better parametrize fluxes at grey zone resolutions.
This might be the best example of a mesoscale convective system (MCS) I’ve ever seen here in the UK.
Watch as it develops & rapidly pushes north-west. Over 20,000 lightning strikes were detected today.
Thank you @NBCNews for having me today to discuss atmospheric turbulence. Chopped off the end of the interview due to twitter video limits but the very friendly Zinhle Essamuah did mention my new paper discussing future changes to clear air turbulence: https://t.co/WM36kI2aUr
I had a great time at #AMS2023 where I got to meet and hear from many people researching boundary layer turbulence in the @BLTametsoc sessions. It was also great to get to chat with others about some of my work during the poster session
