Addition of a surgery-specific module to a perioperative, telemedicine program for improving functional outcomes after radical prostatectomy

Study evaluated whether adding a radical prostatectomy (RP)–specific pre- and rehabilitation module to an optimized digital perioperative coaching program (“Betty”) improves recovery after robot-assisted RP. Among 333 patients (177 controls, 156 intervention), baseline characteristics were comparable. At six weeks, continence recovery was significantly higher in the digital program group (83.3% vs. 68.4%, p=0.002), with markedly reduced need for postoperative physiotherapy for persistent incontinence (27.5% vs. 58.8%, p<0.001). Although not statistically significant, the intervention group also showed trends toward fewer complications, unplanned visits, and reoperations, with more same-day discharges and higher patient satisfaction.
These findings suggest that incorporating surgery-specific content into a digital perioperative program enhances early functional outcomes and perioperative care after RP, though randomized trials are needed to confirm benefit. #ProstateCancer

Today in #PiS: This meta-analysis confirms that #ERBT and #cTURBT yield comparable early oncological outcomes, with ERBT being associated with fewer intraoperative adverse events. The enhanced histopathological accuracy obtained from ERBT enables better patient stratification, potentially leading to more effective subsequent care delivery. Tailoring the resection technique to patient and disease characteristics will likely improve patient outcomes.
