Tonight’s State of the Union Address is a designated National Special Security Event (NSSE), which requires extensive coordination across public safety, transportation, health, and communications systems.
To support this, DC HSEMA is activating the District’s Emergency Operations Center, including a Joint Information Center operated in coordination with the U.S. Secret Service. This allows city and federal partners to share information in advance, work side by side during the event, and provide consistent, timely information to the public.
This type of coordination is a routine part of how the District prepares for every National Special Security Event and other major planned events. We work with our partners year-round so when the community needs us, we respond together with coordinated action and clear information.
The District requested federal support in response to the Potomac Interceptor collapse, and @EPA and @USACEBaltimore have delivered.
This week, EPA and the US Army Corps of Engineers hit the ground running, collaborating with DC Water and District agencies to:
✅ Divert stormwater away from the active repair area to prevent delays
✅ Reduce the risk of additional contaminants entering the Potomac River
✅ Assess near- and long-term measures to support water quality and expedite repairs
✅ Conduct in-person site inspections
The District’s drinking water remain safe and unaffected by this incident. 🚰
USACE’s response operations have helped keep DC Water repairs on track, and we are grateful for federal support in addressing and recovering from this incident.
@pfrostamis I definitely noticed this too, working in emergency management in DC, and as a comms professional, it is concerning and noticeable ---and something that would normally have been put out weeks ago by now.
Hi friends. 🫶🏾 it has been a while.
My beloved USAID has been dismantled. #USAIDFOREVER
I had a long period of unemployment.
I dove into passion projects and personal development.
And now I serve at DC’s emergency management agency.
I’ll be more active, promise. 🫶🏾
A new study in @TheLancet finds USAID support helped prevent 91.8M deaths since 2001—including 30.4M children under 5.
But with deep funding cuts in 2025, projections estimate 14M+ additional deaths by 2030.

Under increasingly challenging environments and threats to aid workers, I am very proud to serve among some of the most selfish individuals, dedicated to using their expertise to end suffering and save lives around the 🌎. Honoring #WorldHumanitarianDay today.
A very special thank you to Fairfax County search and rescue experts for consistently coming through to support the urgent needs of people following disaster.
I'm a former Haiti correspondent for Reuters, stringer for TIME, and freelance contributor to countless other outlets and I am here to tell you, my colleagues in the English-language media, that you're not asking enough questions about what happened in Port-au-Prince yesterday.
📅 ONE HOUR! There is still enough time to register for tonight’s session or session 2 and 3! Tell your brother, your meemaw or your nice neighbor who you’re worried about.

And to happen on a day that has brought me so much joy, participating in the day one of the #GenerationEqualityForum in Paris to advance women’s rights, safety from #GBV and economic opportunity.
Never forget HIV/AIDS was referred to as GRID and gay cancer in the early 80s. Some [often] times, discrimination and prejudice impede the progression of scientific research and delivery of public & clinical healthcare.
It's been great working with the NY/NY-based non-profit, The Color of Health. (fellowship, yes I am still a full-time Fed lol)
Cannot wait until it is truly safe to gather for health fairs & other outreach initiatives in local communities. Check them out: https://t.co/TkXrWN1Qiy

Understanding that not everyone has access to📱💻, but also wanting to ensure public health safety (we aren't ready just yet for public group forums/health fairs), this roundtable is a continuation of virtual sessions bringing critical info in a safe space to those in need.
