Recent findings from the Parker Solar Probe, the only spacecraft to travel through the Sun’s upper atmosphere, have provided the first direct evidence confirming theoretical models of magnetic reconnection that scientists developed decades ago.

These models describe how magnetic field lines in plasma break and reconnect, unleashing vast stores of energy, a process critical to understanding solar flares, coronal mass ejections, and other space weather phenomena.

By flying into the Sun’s corona, the probe has filled a crucial observational gap, validating these long-standing theories.

.@NASAPersevere rover has delivered one of the clearest and most striking panoramas ever seen from the surface of Mars, captured on May 26, 2025, at a site nicknamed Falbreen.

This breathtaking 360-degree image was composed from 96 Mastcam-Z photos, stitched into a mosaic that offers remarkable visual clarity and a rare glimpse through relatively dust-free skies.

Two distinct versions of the panorama have been released: an enhanced-color variant that dramatizes the contrast between terrain and sky, and a natural-color version that faithfully portrays Mars’s characteristic rusty-red tones.

The sharpness of the image even makes the planet’s hills, some 65 km (40 miles) away, clearly visible .

In the foreground, a sizable “float rock” seems perched atop a dark, crescent-shaped sand ripple about 4.4 meters (14 feet) from the rover. Scientists believe this rock was transported from elsewhere before the ripple formed, hinting at Mars’s dynamic geological past.

Just below and to the left, a small white abrasion patch, about 5 cm (2 inches) across, marks the spot where Perseverance drilled on May 22, 2025, to analyze the rock's interior before collecting a core sample.

Also telling the tale of the rover’s journey, its tracks are visible to the right of the scena. Midway through the image lies a boundary between lighter-toned, olivine-rich rocks in the foreground and darker, older clay-bearing rocks farther away, possibly representing some of the oldest terrain Perseverance has explored, even older than the rim of Jezero Crater itself.
