Hostile foreign governments deliberately attempt to bully, silence, and even assassinate people on U.S. soil who they see as threats to their regimes. These illegal and anti-democratic activities are called transnational repression.

The @FBI has a rigorous program to counter the threat - conducting thorough investigations to hunt down the criminal actors engaging in these crimes. Each of our 56 field offices has a multi-agency task force that combats wider counterintelligence activities, and some offices, such as Philadelphia, have dedicated transnational repression task forces. We also engage in extensive outreach to raise public awareness and educate private industry and academia.

With millions of people visiting the U.S. over the next two months as part of the FIFA tournament, we may see increases in this activity by foreign nations and encourage the public to stay on alert.
