Even bees experience affect contagion!
Two individually marked bumble bees are shown in a tunnel used for affective contagion experiments. Bees that briefly interacted with conspecifics in a positive affective state in this tunnel later showed more optimistic responses to ambiguous flowers. The discovery shows that even insects can share affective states, tracing the roots of affect and social cognition deep into evolution.
@ImagingNeurosci Whats the relevance for ACC ? seems like all fmri points there, is it just bc this region is vasculature hub ? i guess bc of former it has big role in all actions...
Traveling waves are indicative of conserved quantities. In the brain, there is undeniable evidence for traveling waves of neural activity -- but what is the brain trying to conserve?
In our ICLR paper with @wellingmax, @_mullerlab, & @sejnowski, we ask: could it be memory?

our @deepmind paper is out in PNAS!
we use john rawls' veil of ignorance as a method of choosing principles to align AI 👰♀️🤖
participants behind the veil are more likely to choose principles that prioritize the worst off, driven by fairness concerns

Out today @NatureComms! Very excited to share another paper with those who are interested in insular and DMN. Here we manipulated anterior insula with optogenetics and monitor downstream activity changes using fMRI. Digest from the lab will follow. https://t.co/lE2kpdcISx
Humans are pattern-finding machines & some patterns call to us more.
This neat paper finds that, across 27 cultures, we tend to name the same patterns of stars, mostly because the perceptual systems of humans are all drawn to the same types of patterns. https://t.co/qOZ6VErFwp
It was de Chirico's Song of Love (1914) that so revolutionised Magritte's understanding of art.
It allegedly brought him to tears. And - crucially - he said that he had seen, for the first time, *thought* expressed in art.
It was art's intellectual capacity that interested him.
It’s like the McGurk effect but synergistic instead of interfering.
Like his impressions are improved by the deep fakes and the deep fakes are improved by his impressions.

There is a point to this “stewardship” framing, and i do think it is our 21stcent. civic duty to be engaged with our online/digital communities where next gens will develop from
2/ These brain states tile the canonical gradients of functional brain organization, which operates as a shared latent manifold of large-scale neural dynamics.
Exclamation Mark
Possibly comes from the Latin phrase "io", which was an expression of joy. 14th century Medieval writers placed this at the end of sentences for emphasis. Eventually the I was placed above the O and it became an !
Got its current name in 1839.
@PessoaBrain@micahgallen in #falloftwitter (just as in #fallofdemocracy) 1 can work inside or outside of system 4 the same shared ideals/goals. We R on same team. & need to stick 2gether, do good, & uphold those a4mentned values
Mapping neurotransmitter systems to the structural and functional organization of the human neocortex | https://t.co/CLp1wYHP35
Led by @JustineYHansen out now in @NatureNeuro!
TLDR: we curate an atlas of neurotransmitter receptors and relate it to brain organization 🧩🧠🌎⤵️
