At least 15 former and dismissed Military officers reportedly meet in Banani,Dhaka, over plans to transform Bangladesh into a
“Military-Ruled #Islamic State.”
Former officers Abdullahil Amaan Azmi,Hasinur Rahman and former Army Chief Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan are reportedly linked to the network.

The group allegedly seeks influence through Army Chief Gen. Waker-Uz-Zaman to promote an “Islamic State” and “Shariah-Based Society,” while Azmi and Hasinur reportedly maintain contacts with Pakistani and Turkish intelligence.

Initiatives were reportedly taken to link Bangladesh with the so-called “Mecca Defence Alliance,”

Bangladesh’s political history is marked by bloodshed and political violence.
At its centre stands Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

At least 20 assassination attempts have targeted her life.
14 cases were filed,but only 2 have resulted in verdicts.
The most infamous was the 21 August 2004 Grenade Attack,which killed 24 people and injured hundreds,
leaving Sheikh Hasina with permanent hearing damage.

A Trail of Attacks

1988,Chattogram: Police opened fire on her procession, killing 24.

1989,Dhanmondi: Gunfire and grenades targeted her home.

1991: Her convoy came under Gunfire.

1994,Pabna: Bullets riddled her train compartment.

1996: A Shooting and Bomb attack targeted her rally.

2000,Kotalipara: Massive 76kg and 40kg bombs were planted at her rally site and helipad.

2001–02: Bomb and Armed attacks targeted her rallies and motorcade.

21 August 2004: Grenades were thrown at her rally in one of Bangladesh’s deadliest political attacks.

2007: During detention,she reportedly fell seriously ill after suspected Poisoning.

2011–14: Further alleged international and suicide-bomber plots targeted her.

2015, Dhaka: JMB Militants reportedly attacked her convoy with Bombs.

More than 60 Awami League leaders and activists were killed,
with thousands injured in violence surrounding these attacks.

The Legacy of Impunity

20 Assassination attempts tell a story not only of Sheikh Hasina’s survival,but also of unresolved violence,alleged political protection and delayed justice.
